I first heard about lysine in the early 80's and pretty much forgot
about it.  In the mean time my former genital herpes has sort of
turned into shingles and now appears as blisters on and around my
buttocks.  Haven't had any genital sores in about 15 years.  But some
of the outbreaks on the "cheeks" are rather severe:  lots of nickel
sized patches and very painful.
I remembered the lysine and now put 6  500 mg tabs in the coffee pot
every morning.  Can hardly taste it, it adds a very slight salty taste
which I don't mind.  I have had only one small outbreak in the last 2
months which healed very quickly (as opposed to 2 weeks of pain).
I always wondered whether those tabs would dissolve in the gut or pass
through indissolved.  Now, I know for sure that they are totally
dissolved in the coffee.  I am really excited that something so simple
and cheap works so well.  I'm just kicking myself for waiting for 25
years.  Give it a try!!!

Hi null pointer,

I'm glad you've found something that is working for you!

Just a few minor points:  herpes simplex can't suddenly become herpes zoster
(shingles).  That's the chicken pox virus.  So, what's really going on is
that your herpes infection has found another nerve to travel down, which is
causing outbreaks in a new location.  As to why they are so severe, you
might want to take a look at other lifestyle factors that would have caused
your herpes severity to change.

Also, that's a lot of lysine daily.  Do be careful.  I believe too much can
have some negative effects for some people.

Lysine tends to work better for type 1 herpes than for type 2.

Take care and thanks for sharing your success with us.
