loss - 22 Aug 2006 21:14 GMT Well the winner is ME. I'm the mother of a bouncing baby - HSV-2 ... . I feel like I have to wear a scarlet letter for the rest of my life. . . The Valtrex worked wonders and I feel as if nothing ever happend. I can't wait until I get the full blown outbreak, flu, fever, chills, aches pain, possible hositalization . . .
Eric - 22 Aug 2006 21:26 GMT loss,
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Don't think for one moment that you have to wear a scarlet letter for the rest of your life. You are still the same person you were before you found out. And you know what, nobody has to know about it except those that you trust enough and those you plan on being intimate with. People can look at my lip and know what I have. If you take Valtrex suppressively, I'm sure any recurrances will be milder and you won't get any of the things you mentioned.
You're not alone. So many people have what you have. We're all here for you, talk to us, ok? You'll be ok.
Hang in there,
~Eric

I just never though I'd be like one of those "beautiful" people on the TV commercials.
I know my exhusband, (for better or worse, yada, yada) gave this to me. He had numerous anonimous sex partners during our marriage, he traveled a lot. Unbeknownst to me, until later on, he was a sex addict. I confronted him after he had shown no interest in sex for what would be a long period of time for him, he confessed that he had a "sore" that was very painful and had gone to a "doc-in-the-box" where they gave him an ointment and that seemed to be healing it. I, of course, flipped out and made him see a urologist, I even went to the appointment with him.
I had every confidence in the doc, who said that whatever it was seemed to have been "burned" off and not to worry. To this doc's discredit he NEVER said that I or my EX should be tested. Well here it is 11-12 years later and . .
I win!!!
I was sooooo stupid, but I thought, hey if the doc says not to worry. . .. . I hope that anyone reading this might take heed and if they are ever suspicious . . GET TESTED, who cares what the doc says, the proof is in the test.

Congratulations on your diagnosis! :)
Hugs to you.
I remember that feeling--of having to wear the scarlet letter. I thought everyone who looked at me could see I had a horrible disease.
But it really does get better, honest. It just takes some time. Allow yourself the chance to grieve, then pull yourself together, and keep on going. I have faith in you.

loss - 23 Aug 2006 15:50 GMT Angela, I am being sarcastic. Your info has been very helpful. With your help, along with the help of others, I have calmed down.
There is a lot of info out there to diseminate and if it is misunderstood or if you don't follow-up with the "test" or a face to face with a doctor, a person could think the rest of their life was going to be HELL. Such as I was sacastically responding to regarding the fever, chills, aches, pains, naseau, and as one site stated hospitalization. All of which, could happen, not happen at all, happen in varying degrees. But still scary to think about.
In my case, I would bet my doughnuts that for the past past couple of years the "yeast" infections I was experiencing may very well have been HSV outbreaks that I never associated with HSV. BUT now, looking back, I always said to myself I wonder why I never had the "classic" symptoms (discharge, ect) of a yeast infection, just iching and sometimes burning, I NEVER had any sores. The OTC meds just eventually worked. And I got them about 3-4 times a year, sometimes less. Soooo. . . .
I hope this "last" HSV-2 outbreak is the last of the worst and now with the Valtrex on hand, I can be prepared. P.S. I did have the scrape (culture) test.
Thanks again

Those supposed yeast infections could very well have been mild herpes outbreaks. Many women have thought the same and then been surprised to find out they have herpes.
And you're so right. The websites available out there on the net can be very scary. But, many of them are set up that way so a person will buy whatever it is they are selling. People do end up in the hospital because their first outbreak is so serious, they don't know what's happening, so they go to the ER. Or, their eyes get infected with the virus and they have to go into the hospital for treatment--that happened to my former college roomie. But all in all, the vast majority of people just go on living their lives without incident.
I'm glad the Valtrex is offering you some comfort. Many blessings to you.

I think you'll find once you get a handle on all of this - that it's not as scary as what you first thought. :)
