It's me again, thanks for the previous answers to my newfound
predicament. Now . . for follow-up.
I started the Valtrex 500 mg 2xs a day on Thursday; by Friday evening
the "sore" was practically gone. Does it work that fast??
On Sunday, yesterday, I felt the usual "itchies" of a yeast
infection coming on, if I understand correctly one can bring on the
other, due to all the stress? I started the over the counter stuff as
I am NOT about to deal with a week of that, talk about aggravation! I
"feel" better this moring. Am I correct in my assumption?
My "significant Other" has gone for a blood test for BOTH 1&2, as I
instructed. He is very supportive and concerned, but of course is
positive that it can't possibly be from him, as he has never had a
cold sore, nor any other outbreak. Fortunately, his doc set him
straight that he could have had at least HSV-1 since he was 5 years old
and never l knew it.
I don't mean to sound terrible but I am really pulling that both his
blood test and my scrape test come back as positive for the HSV-1 as
this would at least open up the possibility for him having given to me
during oral sex, and my outbreaks could be fewer and less as time goes
on.
Thanks for your support S

Hi loss,
I can't answer your questions as I've never used the meds and I've never had
a yeast infection. But yes, the two can often go together.
Good luck to the both of you.

Yes, it can work that fast. :)

It is possible to have both a yeast infection and a herpes outbreak at the
same time.

Most people are infected with HSV-1 during childhood. He absolutely may
have HSV-1 and may have never had (or remember having) a coldsore ever.
You don't sound terrible. HSV-1 outbreaks do tend to be fewer and less
as time goes on than HSV-2, but there are always exceptions of course.
Many more people also have HSV-1 than HSV-2. When will you hear about
the results?

The frequency and intensity of outbreaks in most people tend to be less over
time. Doesn't matter if you have oral herpes or genital herpes. The
exception to that would be those people that have frequent outbreaks that
never let up no matter if it's oral herpes or genital herpes.
I have had HSV-2 since the summer of 1995 and I don't have frequent
outbreaks at all. When I was first diagnosed I did and then over the years
the outbreaks calmed down. I also happen to know people that have genital
herpes type-1 that have more outbreaks than I ever did. Maybe they just need
more time for their body to get used to it... who knows. I just know that it
doesn't matter which type you have... if you have frequent outbreaks then
chances are they will decrease over time.
Hope I'm not confusing anybody here... I realize you might be confused
because everybody seems to want to compare oral herpes to genital herpes.
Seems somewhat silly if you think about it... herpes simplex virus type-1 is
just that only it can be oral or genital and herpes simplex virus type-2 is
just that only it can be oral or genital. See my point?
Hang in there,
Angela ;)

No I'm glad you clarified that Angela :-) I don't want people to think
that I meant that just one type declines in intensity and severity.
They both generally do.
Well I hope my hsv-1 doesn't come back for a while. It's certainly
taking it's time healing.

It's too bad you weren't able to get in to see the doctor about this... you
could have had proper testing done to make sure what you have on our mouth
really and truly is oral herpes.

Tell me about it, but I never had symptoms like this before so they
took me by surprise. My dermatologist told me I absolutely have to call
him immediately when I start to feel the next one come on because he
said a test must be done within 48 hrs. It's still hasn't gone away
yet. As grace from hhp said, "statistically I do have hsv-1 orally" and
based on my symptoms, the location of the area, the appearance, and the
length of time I have had this annoyance, there's not really any doubt
in my mind. I'm certainly telling my regular physician about my
symptoms, but I think I'm going to have to wait until it comes back
again to get it cultured within the time frame. I'm just worried about
how I'm going to tell a partner about it. I wish it would go away too,
it's taking FOREVER :-(
