Simple Question

Hello all,

I have had H now for almost two years.  The first year I had OB's about
once every 6 weeks and I felt they were, for the most part, fairly mild,
just blisters.  Over the last 8-9 months I feel I have had maybe one ob,
maybe two but only 1-2 very small blisters showed up, if that.

Now.  I would like to have sex with my gf.  She has known about this
from the start.  Let's assume she is disease free for this conversation.
My overall question is simple.  I would like to know, roughly, what
the chances are of her getting H from me if we use latex condoms and I
am not showing any signs.  I know all the stuff about shedding and all
that.  All I want to know is what are the chances she could get H using
a latex condom and no signs showing.  I know there is no exact answer.
Give me best guesses.  Thank you in advance.  Please email me your
responses to iceman6409@frontiernet.net

Hi.  I'm certainly not going to guess.  There's no way to give you an
accurate guess without knowing more specifics.  Especially if you are
planning on taking Valtrex.

Yep, need to know more specifics. Do you have type-1 or type-2? Also,
your assumption that she is negative for both types might not be the
best one to make, considering the majority of folks have already been
exposed to type-1 at some point in their life.

Bottom line, more details and specifics are required.

She was checked years ago and hasn't been with anyone else in almost 20
years except me.  We have not had sex since I found out.  So, no, she
does not have it.  My H is on my penis so I assume that is type 2.  If
it helps all my ob's were on foreskin, nowhere else.  I am not on any
suppressants either.  Can't afford them yet.

All I really wanna know is what are the rough chances she could get H
from me if I use a latex condom during non-ob times.  I don't need it to
be scientific.  10%? 20% 5%?  I am just trying to be general.  I know
there is no exact answer.

I can't give you any idea until you get a type-specific antibody test
done to determine which type you have. Just because it is on a genital
site does not mean it is type-2! Both types can cause lesions on the
foreskin too.

You need to find your viral type because they have very different
recurrence and shedding rates, not to mention very different
transmission rates. And you still don't know if she already has type-1
or even type-2. Take her along for a blood test too.

Hi Iceman,

I still can't give you any rough estimates, but never presume that since
your herpes is genital that it is type 2.  Many of us have type 1 genital
herpes.  And that is difficult to pass on from genital to genital.
