I have been in a comitted relationship for over 2 years with a girl who
told me back then that she had GH. We've been pretty careful over that
period but not careful enough, I guess. I just found out that I'm
infected. She was really upset at first and was blaming herself for a
couple of days. I know that it was my own responsibility and I have to
live with the consequences. She didn't realize that she was having an
outbreak and I decided to skip the condom. Her "detection" abilities are
very good. It was just this one time, I guess. My symptoms are milder
than most others that I've read about. I only have one lesion on my
groin and nothing on my penis. I am experiencing muscle soreness in one
leg and a lot of surface sensitivity in the thigh and buttock of the
same leg. Wearing pants to work every day is like wearing sandpaper. I
started Valtrex (1000mg BID) the first day that I saw the lesion and I'm
hoping that the effects die down soon.

Here's my real question. Before this, we had a very active sex life.
Besides "normal" sex, we do a lot of oral and some occasional anal. Some
toys now and then as well. I'm assuming that I am now carrying the same
strain that she already has. Can either of us "catch" it from the other
orally or anally? I don't want her to get new outbreaks in new
locations. BTW, we're both over 40.

Thanks in advance

As long as you both are healthy with no immune problems, you can't pass it
bath and forth.  However, remember there are exceptions to every rule.

You are newly infected, though, and it takes about a year for the body to
become fully able to fight off the virus, which means you can still be
reinfected in a new location.  Just be careful.
