Has anyone ever heard of this happening. I'm talking saliva from the mouth,
such as in talking to other people in close proximity or any other kind of
non sexual contact.
I thought I saw something once about prostitutes saying they were wearing
mouth condoms for fellatio, or tongue condoms or something. I could have
sworn I heard one girl say it was so the GUY didn't get HSV, but I may have
heard it wrong. It was probably to protect themselves.
What do you think?

Nope.
Skin to skin contact is hsv's mode of transmission.
As far as I know there is STILL no documented case of a transfer
taking place by some other means. That's not to say it's impossible or
has never happened, but it does say it's certainly not common and not
very likely.

A condom prevents transmission in either direction. I've never heard
of a "mouth" or "tongue" condom though. Maybe they were talking about
a "female" condom? <shrug>

Herp isn't all THAT easy to transmit. Not like other viruses that are
airborne or can be picked up from inanimate objects. HSV needs to go
directly from the skin surface of an infected individual to the skin
surface of another. No stopping off somewhere in between. And even
that doesn't guarantee infection. It's best shot is to be ground in.
And the fact that so many people have it just tells me there's been a
LOT of grindin' goin on around here ;-)
