Hello folks,

Its been kind of dead in here, so I thought I'd make a new post to get
things going...I guess everyone found a cure...just kidding.

I think I was reading one of Angela's blogs about a new HPV commercial,
but I havent seen them and I live in RI (New England area). I have seen
the old valtrex commercials about the people biking and rock climbing,
the newer ones with people of all difference ethnic backgrounds and
sexes, and another valtrex commercial similar to the older ones. I have
never seen any hpv commercials and I was just wondering if these are
from a drug company or if not by who?

Questions I have are how come there aren't any Famvir or Zovirax
commercials and how come there aren't any informational herpes
commercials from ASHA etc?

I've had both herpes and hpv for about 10-13 years respectivly, but
noticed these commercials are all relativly new.

I just saw the HPV commercial yesterday for the first time.  I thought it
was good.

Was the HPV commercial on regular TV or on cable? Was it put out by a
drug company or by asha or just an organization?

I don't know because I wasn't paying that much attention.

I don't have cable so I'm going to assume it was a regular TV channel.

Just saw the commercial again on NBC.  I tried to catch who it was from.
They have a website, which I think was tellsomeone.com.  And I THINK it was
by Merrick but I couldn't actually see the name...don't know.

The commercial is letting women know they can get cancer from a virus.

I have no idea who put on the HPV commercial.

Hi Angela and Ar, thanks for the information. I don't have cable, so
thats why I wanted to know which type of channel it was on.

I do remember seeing a billboard on a highway near my home in RI  for
"tellsomeone.org" and being curious I looked it up when I got home. I
was about how common std's like herpes and hpv are. Now I just have to
see the tv commercials.

Well thanks for the input, its been kind of dead in here, so I wanted
to stir things up a little.

Yes, I did post something about the new HPV commercials here:

I'm not really sure who sponsors the new HPV commercials. Basically the new
HPV commercials don't really talk about HPV meds.. they just talk about
educating the public more about HPV and how common it is.

I'm not sure why Famvir doesn't have any commercials out there... no point
in having a Zovirax commercial since that's what Valtrex turns into once its
in your body at some point. As for ASHA, I'm not sure if they've had a
commercial on television or not? I do know they are not-for-profit which
might have something to do with that one but I'm not 100% as to how these
things work.

The HPV are definitely new and the Valtrex commercials by GlaxoSmithKline
have been going on since the late 90's.

The ads look like public service announcements but they are actually
paid for by the drug company.  There is a vaccine for the cancer
causing HPV about to be released (if it hasn't been already) so this is
the makers chance to build up public fear just before they release the
vaccine.  I may sound cynical, but that doesn't mean I'm not very happy
to learn about the vaccine.  I had an old gf who had HPV and I'm sad
she couldn't get the vaccine...
