Simple question.
I have HSV2 in the genital area. (I'm a male) My girlfriend does not
have HSV1 or HSV2 anywhere. We use protection when having sexual
intercourse and we abstain from her performing oral sex on me,
however, in my research on the internet, it seems that it is not very
likely that she could get HSV2 orally. Apparently if she does, the
outbreaks are only a few and then they disappear. It seems a little
too good to be true so I wanted to run it by you folks on here. All
the doctors I have asked insist on abstaining from oral sex entirely.
I also haven't found most doctors to really know what they are talking
about when it comes to HSV2.
So what are the odds here? I have had HSV2 for a couple years.. I get
maybe 2 or 3 OB's a year tops. I really can't afford the medication
right now due to not having health insurance. My girlfriend is okay
with getting it, but I just wanted to get the opinions of the wise
folks here in the group about how dangerous/likely transmission would
be from genitals to mouth.
Hope that made some sense.
(ps.. I'm sure this question has been asked before so I apologize in
advance for being the bazillionth person to ask it. :) )
Thanks!

In a healthy person, getting type 2 orally is rare. However, it can happen.
Your girlfriend is less likely to get it orally than she is to get it
genitally. However, remember, that there is a chance, still. I would say
it is up to her comfort level as to how to proceed. Has she been tested?
Many people have herpes without showing any symptoms.
