how come all the messages are no longer on this server?

Is anyone else having trouble reading messages on here?

No...I just dont think a huge number are being generated. Bear in mind
that we all read the group at different places, ie our own nntp servers,
its not one central location. The fact we are having no problems doesnt
stop you having problems.

As to 'no longer' - most servers will have an expiry date on the messages
and delete them once that time out is reached, so if you are downloading
directly from the server each time they will disappear.

Yes I know that there are different news readers and different nntp servers,
but I just thought it was odd that there was a thread that Ar had responded
to under the title "Just joined" and none of her responses were there
anymore, because it said that they were no longer available and they were
very recent too. Maybe there was some other problem?

Hmmm...interesting.  I know that for me, messages come and go.  They're there
and then they're not and then they show up again.  It's annoying.

If its not the basic timeout then thats the only thing left, something
going wrong with that particular mail server....Ive not noticed any
messages disappearing of my mail server except for time based deletion
though.
