Hi Guys,,
About 4 days ago i had small red spots on my upper leag about 10 cm
about my knee, I thought it was a spider bithe or somthing. So i went
to the doctor to get a check up and he did some tested inluding a test
for herpes. Today i went back to the doc to check the results. From the
swab test they found Hepries Simplex type 2.
I have a couple of questions
I have not slept with a girl for over a month.
The girl i was previously sleeping with we were using a condom and this
was happenin for 6 months. And i had no sign
1) Also i have no symptoms on my genital area? Is this normal?
2)Would there be a chance i could have got this from my previous
girlfriend 1.5 years ago?
3) Is a herpes swab test 100% or close to accurate?
Thanks for ur help

Hi,
Sorry about your diagnosis.
I just want to be perfectly clear...your herpes diagnosis came from a swab test?
A culture? It did NOT come from a blood test? This makes a big difference in
how your questions can be answered.

The reason I asked about what test the doctor ran is because I thought the
results of a culture took more than a week. Perhaps someone else will know.

The virus lives in the nerve bundle that services the infected are. For genital
herpes, that means you can have an outbreak anywhere within the "boxer short"
area.

Yes, you could also have gotten it from your current girlfriend. Or, from any
person you've had sex with.
>3) Is a herpes swab test 100% or close to accurate?
A swab test, when positive, is 100% accurate. If negative, then you still need
to retest because false negatives can be common.
I'm still curious as to how you got your swab test results within a few days.

Okay, I did a longer google search and see some websites mention a culture
result may be ready as early as 16 hours.
But then other websites say 7 days to three weeks.

I'm not a doctor or a herpes expert, but I can help a little with your
questions. You can get all kinds of outbreak lesions in the boxer short
area. They can be on the buttocks, thighs, genitals, pubic area etc. You can
get blisters, rash, sore red patches, red pimples etc. I have gotten all of
these in all of the areas listed here. Sometimes blisters on the genitals,
pimples on the inner thighs and sometimes sore red patches on the pubic
area. Sometimes with prodrome, sometimes not. Herpes is very unpredictable.
The pimples I have gotten are like these red areas with what looks like a
blister in the middle, but more like a pimple and its usually itchy or
pinchy feeling. Yep, herpes is strange!

The usual incubation time is 2-14 days, but sometimes it can take a month,
several months or several years. Sometimes the primary can come years later
also, which I think was my case. I know this because I had recurring
outbreaks for years and then this past Feb I had the outbreak from hell with
flu symptoms and everything that lasted 6 weeks, so I think that was my
primary.

90% of people that have genital herpes do not know it because they don't get
any signs or symptoms.

It's possible.

Sounds like the testing that you had done already is pretty accurate. Here's
