live in so-cal, and was told that i was "exposed" to type 2

I am a bit ocd, so I needed to find out right away...not this wait for
3 days stuff.

No one in San diego, or riverside carries the Biokit test except for
one guy in beverly hills (I almost ran over Matthew Broderick in the
cross walk...seriously) area...

the test is awesome.  finger prick (you can't feel), you know in
minutes...no drama, and from what I've read is quite accurate( tests
for type 2 only).  Also, dr is very informative about this virus, and
has been administered many of these tests.

He is a dermatologist, but is very knowledgable ( and the next closest
biokit dr. is san fran)

Best of luck to you all...

You're right about that test being awesome. It's quick and it's
accurate (96% sensitivity if I recall correctly) with, like you say,
results in minutes in a doctors office. However, like all blood tests,
it works by detecting antibodies in the blood. These antibodies take
more than a few days after infection to build up in your system. In
fact, they take more like 12-16 weeks to build up to detectable levels
(Biokit claims "as little as two weeks" but that's best case scenario
in only a few people). Sorry, there is no blood test that can detect
virus within 3 days of infection. The only test that can detect
infection that soon is a culture type test and even that can only do
it if you have an outbreak. The swab is taken directly from the
lesions. If no lesions, then no way to get a swab.
Sooo... how did your test come out? If it was positive, that would
indicate you've been infected for several weeks at the very least. If
it was negative, that would indicate you were negative up until
several weeks earlier but doesn't guarantee you weren't infected
within the last few days. You'll need another test in about 16 weeks
to determine that for sure.

As far as doctors not having the test available, the test can be made
available to any doctor who wants it. Give them this website:
http://www.biokitusa.com/brochure.pdf
and ask them to check it out. There's direct contact info on that page
that a doc can use to call by phone or email.

And to add to that...you were told that you were exposed to type 2.  But how
does that person know they have type 2?  Lots of people have type 1, genital,
but assume it's type 2.  Doctors make this false assumption as well.  So, you
bought a test that will only tell you if you have type 2...not the best choice
because you really don't know what this other person has.

Also, considering you still have to wait close to 16 weeks to make sure you have
an accurate test done...sounds like a waste of money.  Sorry.  Perhaps that
doctor you spoke to wasn't as knowledgeable as he wanted you to believe he was.
