What about L-arguanine and other viruses?

Hello all,

I have a question. Can the amino acid L-arguanine trigger other herpes
viruses besides herpes simplex? What about Epstein Barr, varicella zoster,
hpv or other viruses like Flu, etc? Suppose I went to the healthfood store
and bought that as a supplement, I know it could cause genital herpes
outbreaks, but what about other viruses?

Thanks,
Al

Hi Al,

Well, it's important to mention that L-arginine MIGHT trigger simplex outbreaks
in people who are susceptable to that.  It won't trigger outbreaks in everyone.

And I think you've asked a good question.  I bet Tim would have a good answer.
Hopefully he'll be around soon...

Okay, I think it does for me, and the way I feel this is because during the
past week I have been eating large amounts of chocolate and peanut butter,
due to Halloween snacks. Also during this week I started an outbreak and
larger than usual. The prodrome was more noticeable and the sore area that I
got was very painful and bigger than usual.

I am just curious if it can cause problems with other herpes viruses in
people that have herpes viruses and are sensitive to arginine. I also have
EBV and VZV the other two common herpes viruses, so I was just wondering.

Thanks,
Al

Hi Al ~

Be sure and read what Dr. H. Hunter Handsfield, Professor of Medicine at the
University of Washington and Visiting Scientist at the Division of STD
Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has to say
about all this...
