About 3 years ago I started haveing these symptoms of herpes, flu like
symptoms and then sores but not on my penis but in my pubic hair region.
I went to doctor and at first he said I had scabbies not herpies, but I
told him I wanted to be sure,so he for my on piece of mind he sent off a
sample, well he called me and my own dianosis and not his was right, I
had herpes. They really haven't been much of a problem, about 3 or 4 a
year and sometimes I forget I even have them, when I have a outbreak its
always in the same spot and 1 or 2 tiny blisters. I had a outbreak last
month, nothing major, took my acyclovir, then all of a sudden I have an
outbreak again this month, still not on my penis but in another area of
my pubic area, but this time the outbreak s the worst since my initial
one 3 years ago, so can someone help me with why this is happening now?

There are many reasons for why the "usual" outbreak suddenly changes for us and
becomes worse. I have no idea why it would for you, but I'll toss a few
suggestions out:
Increased stress
Less sleep
Added something to your diet; either a food or supplement, etc
Took something away from your diet
Hormone change
Illness
Medications like steroids, etc.
Ummmm...that's all I can think of at 6:00 in the morning.
My suggestion is to take a look at your lifestyle. Have you done anything that
would effect your immune system? And these changes might not have been in the
last few weeks, but a few months ago and might be affecting the immune system
now.
As to why it is in a new location, well, that's just the way herpes is. That
means the virus followed a different nerve path to the surface of the skin.
Take care,

I kind of know what you mean. I have had genital herpes about 9 years and
for the last 8 years it was mild, about 4-5 outbreaks a year, and always in
the same place. In my case they were 1-2 itchy pimple like things that would
later turn into painful sores and always just above the crack in the
buttocks. Then last February all hell broke loose and I started having 1-2
outbreaks a month and in different areas including the inner thighs, pubic
hair area, and penis (tip and shaft area). To make matters worse I had more
severe symptoms. I know it was stress for me, because I work for a large
financial company that just went through a big merger, and I was afraid of
loosing my job etc. Things at work are calming down and so is my herpes. I
still get them in all the different places and quite frequently, but not as
bad as a few months ago.

Intensity and frequency of outbreaks varies from person to person. Are you
sure what you have going on is an outbreak and not some sort of allergic
reaction to anything you've introduced to yourself lately?
Hang in there,
Angela ;-)

thanks, stress may be the answer, have had some financial problems
recently that has kept me stressed, problems sleeping at night.
Grant - 06 Oct 2005 01:48 GMT
The answer maybe as simple as that. May I suggest trying melatonin for sleep or
valerian root to help you relax before bedtime? Make sure you do some reading
on both before buying to make sure you're okay with it. For instance, melatonin
can be a problem for some people who have autoimmune diseases.
I often have trouble sleeping at night though not in the usual way. I fall
asleep but have trouble getting into REM so I don't dream and I don't get into
that refreshed sleep mode. Valerian helped to calm my nerves about it but it
didn't do much else. The melatonin has been great, though. Thank goodness.
I'm dreaming again and starting to have a bit more energy during the day.
Good luck to you.

Hi Ar,
I think I have the same problem...no REM and no dreaming and I often have
trouble sleeping at night, plus I am a light sleeper and often short on
energy during the day. Do you think that melatonin is safe? Are there any
side effects that you know of?
Thanks,
Al

Hi Al,
The melatonin has been great for me. But, you should run some google searches
and do some reading. Melatonin is a hormone that our bodies make at sundown -
if I remember correctly. But as we get older, our bodies make less. My plan
was not to take it longer than a month. But, I have to say that I'm enjoying
sleeping so much that I'm continuing to take it. There are some people who
should not take it, which is why you should do some reading up on it.

This above particular exercise, seems to help with the sleeping
problems.
When done even a few hours before going to bed, it does wonders.
