Would a possible nursing student be rejected for nursing if blood test
revealed antibodies to the herpes simplex 1 virus (cold sore)?

Absolutely not.
I personally know several nurses with both type 1 and/or type 2
infections. Herp infections are not a problem at all.

The nurse in the NICU for my baby had type 2.. they put my boy in there as a
precaution (hes fine) and SO MANY nurses talked to me about it from their
own personal experiences.
I swear atleast 4-5 did.

Not sure I understand what you mean. What did they say? How'd the
subject come up? What sort of experience... they all had herp?

YES they had it. They told me their treatments, that  they had massive
outbreaks from the stress of pregnancy while they were pregnant ( I had
outbreaks ALOT during pregnancy)..  that they have had it for 20 yrs and
(since I only get them on 2 spots, and mild...) one lady told me she got
them all over her crotch.. like onto her legs and everything.. things like
that. One asked me how long I had had it. The people who had it knew just by
the medication he was on. When my son was born, he was in the NICU because
they were giving him acyclovir as a preventative ( my water broke before the
c-section and I was in the middle of an outbreak)
Anyways - Theres that.

Erm they are gonna have to ditch about 60-80% of applicants if they do.
Its not viable and I know in the UK I have seen nurses with cold sores
(and hence an HSV1 infection)

I would think we'd have an even bigger nursing shortage if that were to be true.
:)

Hello Nospam ~

Having herpes has no bearing on whether a person can become a doctor or a
nurse.

Hang in there,

Angela ;-)
