My doctor recently ran a liver function panel and a hepatitis panel
after a routine ALT test was slightly elevated. The second ALT test
was normal but the Hep C antibody test came back positive. The signal
to cutoff ratio was exactly 1.00. Further tests were ordered but the
results are confusing to me. The genotype test reported insufficient
virus to analyze. The viral load test came back as being below testing
limits, but the testing limits is about 3000 copies. So, was I simply
exposed and fought it off or could I possibly have the infection but
it's just not serious enough to register? Am I contagious? I don't
know what this means at this point. I have none of the risk factors so
have no clue how I would have been exposed. Can anyone offer any
advice?

There are much more sensitive HCV viral load tests available than one with a
sensitivity of 3k copies. The last test I had to confirm the virus was
eradicated had a detection threshold of 5 copies/ml. You might ask your doc to
run a similar test on you, as a "final word" on the matter...
