Hi group.
I'm about to do Tx #8 of a 24 week course, genotype 2b. Just got me 4 week
VL result back and it was UND. I'm really pumped now. I wish I could do the
last 17 Tx all at once and get this over with. Good news though for me! What
are the odds now for a SVR? Get my 12 week VL in 4 weeks. Can't wait.

You're looking good if you're clear this early.  Onward!

Response rates for Tx-naive G2b rapid responders to Peg-IFN + Riba - absent
any out-of-sort condition (like high BMI, high grade liver damage, co
infection, non-compliance, etc) - would be in the 90%+ range. Indeed, folks in
that bin form the basis for ongoing research into shortened treatment
durations (eg: going to a 12 week course).

fwiw, that "Tx #8" sure got me started in a totally opposite direction.
Generally, "Tx" refers to a course of treatment - not a single shot ;-)

Cheers - and good luck. Stay the course and you ought to achieve SVR.

Same here. My 1st reaction was I never heard of anyone doing tx eight times.
Was ready to give Chuck credit for perseverance though.

You mean "shot #8," right?
You've not done treatment before, right?
Well, in that case, do your happy dance, cuz with UND at 4 weeks your odds
are simply f.cking awesome :-)
Congrats, and may your side-effects be gentle. Hahahahah!
This is where Sara steps in to tell you to drink lots of water. Listen to
her. She knows of what she speaks.

yep!  drink that water, it really makes a huge difference in how you
feel and how your body reacts to the drugs.
Congrats on the great results, keep it up and kill that dragon!

Sara

Sorry about the Tx snafu. My bad. Yes this is my first go around and I've
just had injection #8.
I find I'm very impatient with the people around me now, especially within
the first 36 hours after my injection. I guess that's pretty common. The
headaches seem to be not as bad this week as what they were. Hopefully
that's a trend. The most bothersome thing right now is injection site
redness, burning and itching. This seems to be getting worse. The site is
bright red two weeks after and now I've got another one developing redness
and irritation from last week's injection. It takes about four days for the
irritation to become evident. I've actually had pain in the injection site
four weeks afterwards. I've been injecting solely in the thighs, because
with all of the discomfort I've been getting I really didn't want the
discomfort in the abdomen. My wife, on pure supposition, says that she
believes there would be less irritation in the abdomen because of the
greater amount of fatty tissue. Could she be on to something?

If you are getting that kind of injection site reaction, sticking with just
the two sites is not doing you any favors. I strongly recommend you (well,
everyone) use (at least) four injection sites: left thigh, right thigh, left
belly, right belly, in rotation, of course. And make sure you're sticking the
needle into whatever fat you've got at those sites. Skin-popping isn't what
you're looking for - as the Peg will dissipate faster than if you get it into
fatty tissue.

A few other things: let the shot warm up a bit after taking it out of the
fridge. Then, a couple of minutes before you inject it, take an ice cube and
chill the site out 'til it's virtually numb. Then swab with your alcohol wipes
and do the shot. And don't rub the site afterward.

fwiw, I tried going with just two sites (left & right belly). For the first 40
shots everything was fine - I never experienced any appreciable discomfort,
and the localized redness would be gone within a few days. Then, on the 41st
shot, my left belly got really pissed off and decided to teach me a lesson and
grow an abscess. My liver doc said it was because the Peg can, over time,
sensitize the injection site to the point that it has that kind of nasty
reaction. The last 7 shots I rotated between two thighs and the right belly
area...

The crankiness is fairly typical. I know when I get a cold or the flu, once
I've been run down I pretty much lose whatever patience I've had with the
world. Being *aware* of it tends to moderate that impatience - just imagine if
you didn't even realize you were being a dickhead ;-)

Anyway...try the belly area for a shot or two. I think you'll find there's no
more discomfort than with the thighs, and there's a good chance there'll be
less...

Cheers
