topcat - 03 Mar 2009 00:46 GMT I could use a little help here. I decided to speed up the withdrawal process. I was on 10/225 hydrocodone 4x's day for most of the year of treatment. I started cutting back on Friday and stopped this am. I feel like I was run over by a truck, achey, runny nose, chills etc. my dr. said to take a pill. I want to be done. how long will this last, anybody know? joe

Seems like you'll be feeling it for a couple of weeks.
Hang in there...

From the above it seems like a two week taper to zero ought to be a whole lot less uncomfortable for you...

Cold turkey is not the way to go with that sh.t. Aside from being really, really uncomfortable, downright horrible, it seems that people doing it that way are more likely to go back to it. Slow and steady means much less of a beating-up on your body and your mind, and much less chance of backsliding.
Be patient and be strong. Best of luck to ya.

Joined years ago when Kim In Toronto was posting and she got me to join after we met at another site . Been meaning to post for some time but ya know how it goes .. lol. Quick bio . did tx 3x plus low dose maintenace for 18 months and still here :-) . Only had one bx in '98 and was grade 2 stage 3 i believe. Not been on any meds for about seven years and all levels are at 'normal' ... Still get bad fatigue and the daily PM nap is a must but other than that i'm doing ok . Now back to the Withdrawal from Oxy. etc . Had two hip replacements over the last two years so was on oxy or hydrmo.. for a goodly period... Not being advised of the hazards of cold turkey stopping i just did what you did and stopped !!! Yes, i too was hit by that same truck, and when i realised what was happening my pharmacist told me i was Chemical Dependant and i had to taper off .... The good news is that it took one month of cutting down . i was even down to 1/4 of a pill for the oxydodone at the end of the month. but by going slow it was not too bad ... One last mention . This group has been just great over the years i have been reading the posts .. Real info, real humour ... Michael ...... in BC.

Profile check? No, your sig is "Michael.... in BC" and your nic is Shutterbug. I lived on the island for several years, in Campbell River, Victoria and Vernon Lake (a logging camp), so I know it well. Beautiful area; if I was ever to move from Pender Harbour, it would be back to the island.
