Had my first Tx last Thursday as I'd said. Not too bad, expected worse. Lots
of headaches, sweats the first night after my shot, a little nausea, really
sore back every morning. Is the injection site supposed to still be sore 4
days later? Only 23 more to go.

Glad to read things went easier than you expected - that's much better than
the alternative :-)

I don't recall much in the way of lingering tenderness at injection sites, but
that may have been due to my shot prep. If you aren't doing this already,
before you inject the Peg, ice down the shot zone for a few minutes, then use
the alcohol wipes, then do the injection. And resist rubbing the injection
site after the shot.

btw, be sure to use four injection sites, because over time you can develop an
actual reaction to the Peg, even though you're only doing 24 weeks. I tried
getting away with just two general locations (left and right of the navel) but
my 41st shot lead to a real mess of a subcutaneous infection, so I added inner
thighs to the rotation.

Cheers

I also recall (was it the Peg or the Epogen?) that after taking it out
of the fridge, rolling it in my hands to warm it up from fridge temp
for a minute or two helped.

don't necessarily recall a lot of tenderness at injection sites, but
then again I always did them Friday nights, and pretty much hid in
sleep for the weekend so I could make it back to work on Monday
morning...

I did this too.  I would even leave it out of the fridge for an hour
beforehand at times.  I only used two injection sites throughout my 24
weeks.  Never had the slightest reaction on either site (might have
helped being a fat b*****d).  I'm not saying that warming the IFN up
to room temperature was the reason as there are too many variables.

I never had any issues with injection sites in any of my 48 shots. At the
advice of my MD I used my thighs for injections alternating from one to the
other each week. I was told since there are no large veins or arteries at
these sites there was no need to aspirate the needle either. I've been virus
free for over 4 years now.

Congratulations on your prolonged success! I wish the same for everyone here
and everywhere that's had to deal with this demon.

Are you taking the cap off the syringe?

Just kidding. I had a few shots that left tenderness for days after, but no
rhyme nor reason to it, and no long-term problems. I'd let my peg-ifn sit on
the bathroom counter to warm up for about an hour before the shot; cold
stuff really stings.

Good luck on your journey. I also did 24 weeks also, and the duration tells
me that you're geno 2 or 3, and thus have the best chance of success.

Cap off the syringe???? What there's a cap on there? ;-)
Thankfully if I must be cursed at all I can be grateful it's type 2b.
Thanks.

I had that genotype too.  Low viral load at start of tx (though mid
range liver damage) and able to take the full dosage throughout tx
meant it was an easy kill in hep-c terms.  It wouldn't surprise me if
I was a "super responder" but will never know now as the only VL check
on treatment was at 12 weeks.
If you don't get an adverse reaction to tx (possibly meaning a dosage
reduction), you have a great chance of being virus free in a few
months.
Best of luck.

Hang onto that sense of Humor, Chuck. It will come in handy when you
find yoruself standing in front of an ATM asking

"PIN? What PIN? Do I have a PIN?..... ;)

Hey Chuck, Glad the first shot wasn't too bad, sounds like your on
your way.  I never had any tenderness or pain at the injection sites,
just big purple spots.  I rotated from side to side around my b.button
all year, avoiding the purple areas.  thankfully I had a bit of belly
fat so it was no problem finding a clear area.  I warmed my syringe in
my hand for a minute before injecting.
hang in there!  joe

I did daily Infergen shots for 48 weeks,
You should have seen my belly at end of TX.
It was a mess.

Good Luck!!

Casey99
This is my third time try the treatment and my first injection was today.  No
side effects.  The first time I tolerated it for 48 weeks, my number got
better but when I went of the drug the numbers began going up.  The other two
times I could'nt handle it, got really sick, ended up in the hospital, was
going into liver failure.  Had a liver transplant in August 08 but still have
hep c, geno type 1A, so I'm trying it again.
