Just went for my 6 month after treatment visit. All clear. What a long
strange road it has been for me.Dr informed me she has a new clinical
trial treatment program. It is a new drug along with pegasys and
ribavirin.I believe she said the meds are free.Email me if you are
interested for her email address. She is in the New Jersey area.

John,
That's awesome to hear you are clear! Congratulations. I'm 5 months
post-treatment and deep down I think it's going to be good news in the
next month or so, (fingers and toes crossed).

Yeah.. what a strange trip it was.. I'm starting to feel somewhat like
myself, but different at the same time if that makes any sense.

My last visit to the clinic, I heard about something similar regarding a
new drug to add to the mix. From what I remember, I was told the success
rate was higher. I'm sure others in this group will be able to shed more
light.

Likely Telaprevir or Boceprevir. Both are showing major improvement in SVR
rates in their respective trials. With Telaprevir well into Phase 3, I expect
it to be approved within the next 12 to 18 months.

Congrats on your apparent success, and good luck to both of you!

Cheers

Thanks Greyhackles,
I did ask if it was Telaprevir and she said no.She told me the name so
it must be Boceprevir. Happy Holidays and cheers.

I believe a lot of people (non-responders) are riding on the hopes of
Telaprevir. Hopefully early 2010.

Sojo,
Very glad to hear your news also.Congradulations.We slayed this dragon
and to be honest i didn't think it was going to work for me after
treating for a total of about 3.5 years.(fingers and toes crossed here
also).

Thanks John,

My relatively short treatment of six months pales in comparison to 3.5
years. Was this consecutive or repeated treatments with some sort of
break in between? I'm not sure I could do the treatment again if I find
out next month it didn't work.

My struggle right now is getting off the anti-depressants - not going so
good. I quit taking them a couple of weeks ago after slowly weaning
down. I was depressed and went a bit nuts during the treatment which is
how I ended up on the anti-D's in the first place. Now I quit taking
them and I'm ending up right back where I was mentally 6 months ago.

Today, I feel like I will never get past this thing.

hi Sojo,
You will get past this thing.I am 6 monthes removed from
treatment.Stopped anti-depressants right after end of
treatment.Mentally and physically 100%.Felling real strong and back at
the gym.
For me the physoclogical aspect of knowing that i had a virus lurking
around for 30 years and i couldnt cure it just drove me nuts.It
changed my perspective on life its all i thought about.I was allready
dead.Fighting this and the outcome so far has made me very happy.I
learned alot about myself thru all this, some things not so
positive.Good luck to you........john

John,

Hi Last time I talked to Donna she told me that the new treamtent she
is using is good ole Ribavirin in Large Doses before starting the
Interferon or Infergen (can't remember which) then continue on with
both for 12 weeks if patient is undetectable in one week, after
starting the Interferon after the two weeks of Riba alone.  It was a
big surprise to me but she confirmed it and said the dose revs up the
immune system extremely fast.  I had never heard of this and she said
yes, she knows but this is what her researchers are claiming is the
key.  I remember when I first shared it with some friends here that I
speak to regularly in email, they couldn't believe it either, but this
is what Donna said.  She repeated it to me so I know I wasn 't hearing
things.  She works right with the researchers not just the latest and
greatest stuff comming down the line and she thought that Telerivir is
a going to bomb.
I know many times I have heard Ribavirin doesn't work without the
Interferon, but what it does is prepares the immune system to kill the
virus very fast.  She also said that at the first dose of Interferon
is given after the two weeks you need to be under the care of your
physician because of the doseage will knock you down and be too much
to handle.  Hard to believe but this is what she told me at my last
visit.
Skeptics line up, I'm sure there will be alot of that.
Take Care,
eileen
