Hello to the old timers and the new comers.  I'm at week 22, still
kickin, but a day don't go by that I don't think I'd be better off
taking a long nap.  I just keep thinking about the day I can walk up a
flight of stairs without getting dizzy and stopping to rest, and
actually putting in a real work-out in the gym, riding a bike again,
climbing a mountain, or running again, god what I'd do if I had my
energy back!  about a month ago I thought I was finally in a "routine"
I could handle, but then the nausea started to get worse, the fatigue
is slightly worse.  I am taking 1 1/2 tabs Norco about every 3 or 4
hours to get thru the day, and I know some of the nausea is from that,
but without it, I can barely leave the house to work.  Well, I just
needed a good whine fest cuz no one else wants to hear it.  My
condolonces to fellow travelers and hang in there.  If I can do this
you can too!!

Hey TC! That's a boat-load of Norco you're taking. Yikes!

Have you been getting lab work done regularly? If so, how's the hemoglobin
looking? If not, get on the horn and get new labs - don't let the docs cruise
through this thinking you're doing just fine (been there, did that - and
damned near killed myself).

In the "riba rash" thread I responded to your nausea post - drink more water!
Even though you may get really, *really* tired of drinking so much
water/juice/whatever-as-long-as-it-ain't-alcohol, it really does help keep the
nausea at bay.

btw: Nothing wrong with just taking that nap and recharging the batteries. And
if a good whine helps - go for it :-)

Cheers

Hey Grey, how are you?  Nice to hear from you.  Well I've been
wondering if the Norco wasn't part of the problem.  My doc say's "not
a problem", I could even take up to 2 every 3 or 4 hours before he's
concerned.  He tests my blood every month and so far he says no
problems on that too, but I don't no what all they test for.  Should I
ask him to look at my hemoglobin?  Well, I gotta git the laundry done
and housework while I still have some energy left. later, TC

Hi again, TC.  I'm doing well, thanks for asking. Aside from gaining nearly
all the weight back that I lost on treatment (damn! ;-) life is pretty good.

If your doc is doing monthly blood tests, it's likely he's including a CBC as
it's as cheap as it is important. You should be getting copies, though, so you
can get answers to questions such as "do I have anemia - and if so, how severe
is it".

Next time you speak with your doctor it wouldn't hurt to mention how gassed
you're feeling these days, and whether your blood work suggests anemia.

Cheers - and hope you're feeling better!

You might wish to do what I did: switch from Norco to OxyContin. A few
months ago I was on 4 10/325 Norcos per day; the pain was only semi-
controlled, and I experienced opiate withdrawal often, esp on waking.
Then, at the urging of my hepatologist, I found a pain management
specialist and switched to OxyContin; I am now on 3 20mg Oxys per day,
find the pain is much better controlled, and due to the longer half
life of the drug, very rarely feel myself withdrawing...

Of course, another benefit is that I'm not slamming myself with
several grams of acetaminophen every day...

If your doctor won't do Oxy, or methadone, or controlled release
morphine, or any of the other "hardcore" long lasting opiates, you
might wish to try something like 300mgs per day of
http://www.ultram-er.com/ultram-er/index.html

As far as nausea, if it's from opiates it will generally go away; if
it's from tx, you may wish to try 10 mgs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prochlorperazine
several hours before you anticipate feeling like yer gonna hurl (if
you can predict)...

Hi TX, nice to hear from you, how are you holding up, are you still on
Tx? (sorry I forget where everybody is sometimes).  I tried the Oxy,
10mg (sa?)  one day,  about an hour later I was super gaging sick.
I've thought about cutting it down to like a 1/4 tab but am afraid of
it now.
I tried the tramadol, I liked it, but I was getting a hangover every
morning.  don't know that I'd notice now tho, since I do go thru
withdrawls every morning.  I can't move until an hour after I take my
first "hit".   but life goes on hey...yesterday I tried a pinch of
anti-nausea med and it seemed to help a wee bit, wish I could just go
to sleep for the next 6 months.   I wonder if they've made any
progress on that cryogenic hibernation treatment they were working on,
hey??

It's funny you mention that---I've told a lot of people I wish I could
do the 72 weeks "under general anesthesia" and they think I'm
kidding...but I'm really...pretty darn serious, actually...

Re: OxyContin--10mgs is the smallest dose it comes in, but if you take
it regularly the nausea will pass---seriously, in almost all cases,
that's a transient side effect when you switch from hydrocodone to
oxycodone---oxy is about 1.5 times as strong, mg for mg...

But there are other long lasting meds...methadone being the cheapest,
longest lasting one, and one on which you could start on a very low
dose, if need be...

Today is day 331...I'm into my 48th week...just about 2/3 done...it's
very hard, obviously, but...it's not getting worse, right now. Thank
Jebus!

Hey TC, sorry to hear things are such a drag, but many of us can
relate... :) Hang in there! I don't know what you are taking all the
Norco for etc, just side aches and pains of tx? I was prescribed
something for Nausea but never used that, felt like I was already
filling my body with so many evil drugs, whatever I could avoid I did
avoid...rarely took even acetominaphin, but maybe I am just a glutton
for punishment, or a plain old masochist. I chose to jsut withdraw
into myself and sleep away as much of the time as I could manage.
Nothing wrong with that either. You gotta remember there is a hell of
a war going on inside your body these days, and its knocking the crap
outta you!! As for the nausea etc, I always found that opiods upset my
stomache as well, they used to give me just freaking tylenol w/codeine
years ago for ear infections and I would barf them up within 15 -20
minutes. yeccchhh! Hard for them to help much when you can't keep them
down...my pharmacist told me to take them with a glass of milk, I
tried that, and voila, the problem went away, I could keep them down
when I took them with a glass of milk. If you haven' tried that, you
have nothing to lose by giving it a whirl....

Good luck! Take a nap, and remember once you Win the War, things will
eventually return to some form of  "normalcy", and then everyone will
expect you to ACT normal and BE normal again, so kick back and let the
war rage on while you can... ;) Save the energy for the Important
things right now.....like Kicking That Dragon's a.s!!!

Deb, thanks for your help.   I'm almost 1/2 way thru now, and when I'm
really feeling sorry for myself, as I often do, my mind thinks of you
guys on this group,  and I always feel a little better.
Hope you are well,
TC.
