I think I'd feel pretty safe that I'd killed the dragon after 7 years :)
Talk to your doctor and find out how often he thinks you should be tested
(I'll always want that reassurance!) and then don't worry about it except
for getting checked periodically I think :)
as to your earlier question -- the amount of time you spend on tx depends on
which genotype of HepC you have... with type 1 it takes 48 weeks (or more)
to (hopefully!) kill that dragon. With types 2 or 3, it only takes 24
weeks.

I dont have access to my specialist any more (right after I had finished the
treatment) and now my family doctor only suggests ALT and I guess another
simple blood test for liver anzyme, not sure if they are good enough.
Thanks-Ali

After 1 year SVR some doctors switch to only checking the liver
function tests or enzymes some doctors may wait longer. Relapse after
1 year is very low probability. I would think they are good enough
but one thing is I wouldn't be comfortable with liver enzymes normal
but in the high range. Of course if they are in the high range maybe
diet changes would be good or perhaps some medication is the cause.

If your HCV-RNA is undetectable
6 months after your last injection of interferon, you have a 97-99% chance
of permanent cure. I have
only five patients out of many hundreds who turned HCV-RNA positive later
than 6 months after their
last injection of interferon one year after completion of treatment. Four
turned positive one year after the
last injection, and one turned positive 18 months after the last injection.
