amzolt - 14 Jun 2008 02:25 GMT Hey Gang,
One and a half months post-Tx and strength and coordination are inching upwards.
However...
The last couple weeks have seen a severe increase in fatigue.
Is there a recognized, relatively common post-Tx "Fatigue Syndrome" ?

amzolt - 14 Jun 2008 08:32 GMT "Did you recently discontinue EPO? Opiates? Other drugs?"
I assume EPO is epogen. If so, I stopped that at end of Tx 1.5 months ago.
No opiates.
All other drugs (street) ceased 19 months ago.

It may simply be that, as others have reported, recovery from tx does not follow--for whatever reason--a straight path upwards but rather a jagged line, with some good days and some bad days, and over time more of the former and fewer of the latter...
The drugs stay in your system for a very long time, esp ribavirin:

Have you had your thyroid and testosterone levels checked? Some people experience possibly permanent thyroid damage as a result of tx, and it can take a long time to recover from long-term suppression of testosterone levels (which tx certainly does cause: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&r ls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=RGv&q=interferon+testosterone&btnG=Search )---Clomid, incidentally, would help you recover both, if they are in fact temporarily suppressed...

Cactus Jammies - 15 Jun 2008 16:43 GMT Hey Amz Just eat healthy and do what your body is telling you to, like resting after meals, taking naps to allow the liver to repair itself and to break down and distribute all the goodness you're taking in. Easy does it. Your liver will re-generate but it takes time and care. Artichokes, beets, garlic, carrots, dandelion greens, asparagus, rhubarb. And fresh fruit. Stay away from lots of starches if you can. You maybe in a cross-over zone, where your body is getting used to itself again after having been pushed and pulled around by the toxins in the IFN and Riba.

You didn't get this way overnight, you didn't go thru tx overnight - you are comparing what a month and a half of post tx time to how long ON tx, and how long with the Hep C? I know its hard, it was for me, I kept waiting for that magical moment where I realized I jsut felt better and better every passing day, like people said would happen, and was disapponted at not feeling that way for a very long time. Reality is, recovery is a process, NOT AN EVENT. Hang in there, be good to yourself, continue to treat your body and mind well, and things will only get better. It may not happen as quickly as you would like, but things WILL improve as time passes. :)

To add to CJ's energy formula, try green tea and spirulina-- but not mixed together :-)
amzolt - 13 Jul 2008 19:34 GMT Thanks, Waterspider !!
That other thread with Chardonnay is way complex, eh?

TX-012 - 15 Jun 2008 21:16 GMT > no thanks, no more drugs...Arrrrrrgh !!! I hear you and understand (no, really, I UNDERSTAND;)
But if you continue to feel drained, at least get your thyroid checked...
amzolt - 16 Jun 2008 08:33 GMT Cactus Jammies, Thanks for making me aware--Duuuuh--that my liver is in need of recovery, too; no *really*, DUUUH...
dBo , I'll work on the impatience...

Russian - 14 Jun 2008 06:26 GMT > Hey Gang, > [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > ~ Alex One possibility is simply overdoing it. The sides fade away, you get so happy you can do things again that you overdo it. See if it taking it a little easier for a week helps...
amzolt - 14 Jun 2008 08:33 GMT >See if it taking it a > little easier for a week helps... Hmmm...
mawtuan - 17 Jun 2008 06:08 GMT > >See if it taking it a >> little easier for a week helps... > > Hmmm... It took me 6 months to get back to "normal" after 72 weeks of tx. By normal I mean doing stuff when you feel like doing it and not postponing life because you don't have the energy. I still get waves of fatigue, etc. (tx didn't work), but I that's due to the virus, not residual drugs. If weight gain is an indicator, then I'm totally over it. I've gained back the 50 lbs I lost during tx. Now trying to lose some of it. Stick with it. Good luck. Thom

More treatment plans?

I know that if, after my 72 weeks of hell ends, (on Friday the 13th, of all days, February 2009) I discover I have not cleared the virus, retreating would be the last thing I'd want to do--at least not right away...
But I'd hope that, when it becomes possible to retreat with the addition of telaprevir and/or other stuff, I'd do it, at least if $$, work and life permit...
Honestly, though, the notion of going through THIS again...YIKES. YIKES CUBED.
