I'm thinking about writing a column here, it would be called "Symptom
of the Week".  It might go something like this;  "Hi Boys and Girls,
Well this week, we're talking about the "Itchies", is YOUR back
covered in scabs from scratching, well HEY, that's just like the rest
of US!  So, send me all your wonderful tips and any suggestions you'd
like to share on lotions, potions etc.  Well, that's all the time we
have today kids, stayed tuned, who knows what next week will bring:
nausea, depression, HEY, always a surprise!!

Nothin like a sense of humor to get you thru, TC ;)

Yeah the itchies have been a big topic around here. I used Aveeno
Cream and if you have a tub, Aveeno bath soaks - Grandma always went
with OATMEAL soaks and frankly I think that's where the Aveeno baths
came from.....

It's a bugger and like you I found the sides changed constantly and
often....sometimes they overlapped, sometimes one eased up only to be
replaced by others. I got tired of family asking me daily "How are
you" because all I could say in all honesty was "I"m the same as I
have been, what can I say, that's not going to change until I get thru
this thing...."

How far thru tx are you now?

HiYa Dbo!  Well, this is week 12, I get my blood tested mon to see if
i'm "a responder" or dead meat.
How bout you?  how far you into it? Tc
dBo - 15 Jun 2008 19:08 GMT
TC I am a year and a half post tx. Ding Dong the Dragons Dead, as they
say. :)

Keep on pushin and do whatever you have to do to keep wailin away on
that sucker, deal with the sides, stick it out... Kick that DRagons
a.s - tx will kick your a.s right back, its a heck of a war, but a
winnable one.

We'll be waiting to hear something soon on your test results. Got the
fingers crossed. I did not quite make it to undetectable at 12 week,
but was way past the 2 log(?) drop and just barely still detectable at
that point, which was a thrill to hear at the time...

Sarna lotion.  Stinks to high heaven, but it helps.

First and foremost: avoid *hot* water, always use the coolest water you can
live with in the bath.

Beyond that, don't scrub yourself dry, and use some kind of moisturizing
treatment directly after bathing, to help retain moisture in the skin.

And don't forget to stay well hydrated!

Cheers

Hey TC,
I have to say I agree with the Avenno-It takes a good day or two
before you noticed a difference and you have to use it everyday! Also
if it gets.. bad my doc suggested cortisone-I used the Cortaid spray
and it helped A LOT!!
I hope you get good news about your VL. I found out at week 14 I
showed a negative for Hep C. I have not said to much to too many
people.I don't know that" I believe it yet"-being a geno type 1 and a
two time non- responder (prior to transplant).
Are you on any procrit?Mood altering drugs?? I have learned to say yes
to the drugs-they help-you can ask any of my family members ,or
strangers who still have there heads attached to their necks!
Well keep the fight and make sure you laugh at yourself at least once
a day-Dragons don't do laughter....Well-that's what I hear(tee-he).

I have to send out three cheers for Aquaphor.  I went to the doc
recently and told her about
how bad my itchies had gotten, and also how on my hands I had started
to develop these odd little
patches of paper dry skin that hurt like a #@$! and were about to tear
open and she gave me a
couple little tubes of the stuff.

Freakish amazing how well it works and the smallest bit goes a loooong
way.  Stopped my itchies
within moments and though I have to keep applying it a couple times a
day, the patchy dry bits are
starting to warm back up too.

So it didn't occur to me when I got it from my doc, but Aquaphor isn't
a prescription.  You can get it at any
drugstore I guess.  I had never seen it before and my doc had samples
laying around so she gave me a
couple to try but I guess you can get it anywhere.

Here it is on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Eucerin-Aquaphor-Healing-Ointment-396/dp/B000296DVY

Prescription or not, it's great stuff for itchies!

ribbit,
