Hello oh wise and seasoned veterans,
I decided to get an anti-d after accepting the fact that I am full of
self-loathing and misery.  the dr. suggested celexa, a friend of mine
who knows me (thinks I worry a lot anyway), suggested Lexapro.  care
to share?

ps: Hello to Grey, and Sarah, and Dbo, and Jamfer and Tx- and the rest

hope you are well.

HI TC :)

I'm well, thanks!
I think either Celexa or Lexapro are good anti-d's for hep-c
patients... I took Celexa and it seemed to help me.
One thing though, if you still have the Ultrams, DO NOT take them
with an anti-depressant.  They can cause some really nasty side
effects....  tho I know you didn't like them.  But IF you started
taking them for some reason, be sure to talk to the doctor about
that.
(My son does the self-loathing and miserable thing pretty well,
and he's on Lexapro.  It's made a big difference for him, so I do
think either one is a good bet to help you, just depends on your
body and what will work for you.)

Brief explanation, to the best of my understanding. Celexa is a 50/50
mix of the Lexapro molecule and its mirror-image isomer, which either
does nothing, or causes mild side effects. So, if I'm right on the
ratio, 20mgs Celexa should equal 10mgs Lexapro, so I'd decide on the
basis of cost, if a factor. If not, go with Lexapro.

"Escitalopram is the active isomer of the antidepressant citalopram.
In theory single-isomer drugs may be superior but few have been found
to have clinically significant advantages."   And what did they find?
"On the evidence available to us the manufacturer's claims of
superiority for escitalopram over citalopram are unwarranted. The
Swedish and Danish drug regulatory authorities reached similar
conclusions."  So if you're paying full retail for Lexapro
(escitalopram oxalate) and Celexa (citalopram hydrobromide) is
cheaper, you may want to try the Celexa first."

is a wonderful site.

BTW---I've tried Lexapro, and hated it. But to each his own...

Looks like I was wrong on the ratio, and 1mg Lexapro=4mgs Celexa:

Two things stand like stone,
KINDNESS in another's trouble,
COURAGE in your own."

Antidepressants seem to work differently for everyone. Your pal may have
good results with Lexapro and you may not. Many of your doc's patients may
have good results with Celexa and you may not. It's a bit of a guessing
game, and sometimes fine-tuning is required (adjusting dosage or changing
prescription).

The important thing is to get the scrip filled and start taking the stuff;
it will be a few weeks before it begins to work. Then, down the road, if
your misery and self-loathing level isn't down to bearable, see your doc
again.

Hang in there, focus on the goal ahead rather than the bumps in the road. I
know, I know, they're not bumps, they're f.cking craters, but you know what
I mean <g>
