topcat - 15 Feb 2008 17:42 GMT I've had almost daily headaches for 3 months and I was taking about 800mg Ibuprufen 2xs a day until last week when the dr. told me to stop. He is going to do a liver biopsy on the 27th. I could'nt stand the headache so I called him and he said take Tylenol. Everything I've read and was told by my regular doctor was, Don't take Tylenol. Anybody here care to comment. I won't start treatment until after they get the results of the biopsy. TopCat

While I've never been wild about Tylenol, in this case moderate use of same is inherently safer for you. Indeed, for those of us who went through the anti-viral combo therapy, you'll find moderate use of Tylenol is recommended (and was efficacious for me) for getting through the flu-like symptoms on the day and day after you do your Peg-Interferon shots.
The maximum daily limit for Tylenol is 4 grams per day, but it has been shown chronic use at that level can risk liver health. The apparent current consensus for chronic Tylenol usage is to stay under 2 grams per day *from all sources* (ie: most common cold remedies contain hefty amounts of Tylenol)...

Did your "regular doctor" give you a prescription?
I would definitely bounce this off the doctor performing the biopsy before using it, particularly because of its effect on blood clotting. In fact, on the face of it, I think your "regular doctor" is giving you questionable advise (<= I'm being kind here)...

I put a call in to the dr. who's going to do the biopsy about the Tramadol. In the meantime, I couldn't stand the wait for a call back so I took 2 tylenol. Frankly, I can't wait to start tx., side effects or not, cuz I've had lower back pain (hard to tell if it's in the muscle or from the lower GI tract) and then theres the headaches and dizziness for almost 3 months and it seems to be getting worse. later, TC
Cactus Jammies - 15 Feb 2008 19:48 GMT I was told to take Tylenol for shot days, max 2 tablets per day, for no more than three days in a row.

The HepC can/will make you tired and sap any strength and energy you should have. Add some stress, some worry, the tension of feeling crappy and not knowing why..... it would be amazing if you DIDN'T have headaches, backaches, and dizziness, no?
try upping your water intake a bit, (or a lot if you're not drinking much), that 'should' help the dizziness....and try some relaxation stuff... smoke something, pop a xanax, maybe even just a tylenol pm to help you get a good night sleep?
Doctors try hard, but they just can't diagnose everything. I recently saw my regular doc and asked him why I'm still tired so much... he basically told me to work on losing some weight (which I desperately need to do!).... and when I thought about it, lugging around this (xx) amount of extra weight IS very tiring, plus hard on my back. So, hopefully as I lose a bit, and get more active I'll feel better yet.
anyway /turn off mother-mode :)
hope you feel better soon Sara

I am simply stunned that your doc would say that your headaches and dizziness are not related to hep c; these are known symptoms of the disease. If your gastro is at all up on hepatitis c, he should know this. Maybe someone here could get a link to a reputable site describing these symptoms, so you could let him have a look.
Yes, I had frequent and significant headaches and dizziness (among other crap) from hep c, but not backache (I got that from gall stones, another story). Several years after successful treatment, I rarely get headaches and the dizziness is altoghether gone. I suspect the occasional headache is normal.

Anybody else get these symptoms before they started > treatment? I had just finally gotten around to going to a chronic pain clinic for my mygraine headaches before starting treatment. I had been getting them on average one day every two weeks but sometimes went three weeks without one and sometimes had the same one for 3 days in a row non-stop.
This had been going on for about 5 or 6 years.
My preferred treatment was first try 3 advil, and then an hour later try a small amount of percoset (I can't take it at once because it makes me really nauseated if I do) repeating over a couple of hours.
After about 6 months on treatment (peg & riba), the headaches started to drop off in frequency. I get them once every six weeks now and Advil or a small amount of Vicodin puts a stop to them.
I don't know what made the difference. It could have been finally being forced to get more sleep (because of the tx).
Or it could have been due to my liver being in better shape.
Although I relapsed in hep-c viral load and alt levels, I still have more energy than I've had in several years, and I still have way fewer headaches.
Russian - 17 Feb 2008 07:44 GMT Or maybe it was learning during treatment to drink more water, that helped with the headaches.
I have a case of water at the office and I put two bottles on my desk every morning. If that doesn't sound like much... without that system I'd drink almost none during the day.

I had migraines from high school until around 35. I would have to go for shots sometimes because they were so bad.
They just went away one day.
I didn't put it together until later. I used to smoke Marlboro cigarettes. When I switched to lights they went away. The way I put it together was that I bought a pack of regular Marlboro and it caused a headache.

I take the prescription drug Altace and it works great.
Thip - 16 Feb 2008 02:42 GMT > That sounds like it could be high blood pressure. > I take the prescription drug Altace and it works great. Good suggestion. TC, can you borrow a BP monitor and check it every few hours for a few days? If it's spiking that could be causing some of your problems.

I take Altace Adalat (generics) and Hydrachlorothorazide (water pill) for my HBP, have been for years. Down to a pretty normal 130/80 but it was 160/105 before I started with those drugs. One difference between Tylenol and that Tramadol stuff is that the first is cheap and there is no Rx charge by the prescribing doctor as would be the case with the other, or am I just being cynical?
good luck and cheers

The headaches and dizziness could be caused by hypertension, but I'm not sure the backache fits (could be wrong, I've been blessed with fabulous BPs through my life). And one would think with all the visits to his primary care physician, someone would have noted high blood pressure.
Otoh, all of those symptoms could be caused by a whacked-out thyroid - something that wouldn't normally be discovered by the typical PC visit.
So I'd go for a TSH check. It's cheap and quick...

It certainly took away the headache and was definitely feeling; stoned. but I feel hungover today, and had the weirdest dreams, no thanks. going back to tylenol until told otherwise. TC
