I was stage 3 grade 3 when treatment started, genotype 1.

I have my 1 year post treatment blood test today. The HCV specialist
as Kaiser  told me that if I am still clear the odds are 99.99% it
will never come
back. He used the word cured.

He also mentioned that they expect my liver disease to reverse back to
0 over time
since there was no permanent damage.

God is good.

At my 2 year post treatment follow-up my Gastroentrologist told my I'm still
clear of the virus but i couldn't pry the word "cured" out of him. Although
he did say, "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, you can bet
it's a duck."

ahahahahaha! gotta love the commitment ;-)

The "C" word is actually a relatively recent shift in the medical biz, due to
two prime reasons: there wasn't a really fine yard stick, and there really
wasn't enough high quality, long-term study data on the durability of SVR to
justify that conclusion - until the last two years.

Now we have highly available, highly sensitive qualitative tests, and there
have been multiple long-term studies that utilized them to determine just how
durable SVR can be. And the results strongly suggest that the vast majority of
folks that are clear for a year have indeed been given the "cure".

The Duck has left the building! :-)

Cheers

FWIW, my BLCD said pretty much the same thing as yours - "it's as
though you never had it" not quite sure I believe that fully but we
discussed it. I also was geno 1a, Stage 3, level 3 inflammation and I
asked about that specically - "would it be safe to assume that with
being virus free for a year and a half now, that my liver has been
regenerating, and is possibly back to only stage 2, and could
eventually revert all the way back to stage 1?" His opinion - and mind
you this is one docs opinion - is that I have probably already gone
back to stage 2 and maybe even stage 1 - that:

"We doctors have had to rethink own previous thinking on this over the
past few years, and now realize that with Hep C, with eradication of
the virus, as opposed to other forms of liver damage (ie alcholic
cirrhosis), the damage really does reverse itself...and we are just
beginning to realize that..."

as I said, his opinion. Of course we all want to hear the Postive
Things!

All I can say is "quack quack" I'm outta there.... ! Demons and
Dragons, zero, Deb 1,847... ;) Just call me "Timex"...
