Anyone seen a dermotologist?

I have Hep C and been through treatment twice.  I finished treatment
(cleared, still cleared) about 2.5 years ago.

I saw a dermatologist during treatment for itching.  He gave me some
cream that seemed to help a little, but I prefer itching over being
bathed in cream.

Anyway, my skin now is burning.  It is mostly my arms, but a little on
my hips.  Cortisone will help a little, but I wish I could find
something that would stop it.

I have made another appointment with another dermatologist, but it is
still a few weeks away.  Anyone had any successful treatment, other
than cream?

Hi Terry.  I am not a big fan of topical creams and ointments, unless the
problem area is very small and likely caused by some external factor - you
know: bugs or fungus.  But if a rash is systemic and has an internal cause,
such as liver problems, then it seems to me that the solution would also be
an internal one.   Argh prescription steroids.

I suspect that a lot of heppers' liver/skin problems are caused by toxins
that your system is pushing out through the skin.  Maybe your itchiness is
from bile salt residue and liver crud collecting in pores and on the
surface of your skin. Especially in summer.   So my simple suggestion is
to shower with minimal mild soap and rinse cool and air dry at least twice
a day in hot weather.  Not a flashy solution, but it helps me.

yeah, when i was doing tx i had the systemic type rash mentioned by
Kathy and was prescriped prednisone an oral cortico steroid.  That's
some serious stuff though and you don't want to take it unless you
really need it because the side effects can be really nasty.  Your
dermatologist needs to get the cause of that rash figured out and an
effective treatment for it I think.  But here's one thing.  If after
trying over the counter creams they sometimes try a prescription cream
which is stronger.  One that works pretty well is triamcinalone.

I forgot to mention I did steroids for a while for something
unrelated, and they stopped the itching overnight.  My liver doc took
me off of them because of the sides and because it is bad for the
liver.

I was reading about treatment for psoriasis that uses ultra violet
rays.  I don't know if that would be for me or not.  I guess I will
see in a couple of weeks.

Thanks everyone for your time

I will give the Aloe a try.

Twice? Were you a relapser? What did you do differently the 2nd time?

I've had some success with "fluocinonide". Maybe your doc will call in a
scrip before your appt.

I will give it a look.

No.  I was not a relapse.  I never bothered trying to learn what the
meds were called.

I was using the pen injections at a time when Pegasus was still only
given to the chosen few.   After 10 months on the pen my doctor
decided to change me to Pegasus.

I was responding to the pen, but I still had a viral load.

With Pegasus, I became undetectable at 12 weeks.

So I did 10 months of the pen and then a year of Pegasus without a
break.

What's "the pen"?

The pen was just one form of interferon.  It came in a pre measured
dose.

I will ask the doc when I see him.

Thanks
