hi guy, how is the program going?  did you get your biopsy yet?  anyway I
think you would appreciate the irony of this cool bit of info that was
headlining CNN news USA yesterday...

For the reponse to Hurricane Katrina, FEMA accumulated a bunch of ice that
was kept in storage for future consideration, and was never distributed
since two years ago.  It has cost the US taxpayer over 13 Million to store
the ice.  But it gets even more twisted... In finding that the ice could not
be verified as sanitary or infected with ebola or whatever, it cost them 3
million to dump it.  whew.  But they tried to give it away first to save
money.

This is the Year of the Biopsy. I saw the liver doc last week and, after
giving me a lot, I mean a lot, of sh.t for not having been around much,
she scheduled me for blood tests, ecogram (?) and when those come back,
the dreaded biopsy will be scheduled. Then, if bad, treatment. Thanks
for you concern.

I read about that. The trailers that are making people sick is even more
pathetic.

Echogram - aka Sonogram or Sonograph. They look for frankly evident problems,
like enlarged and/or irregular liver outline, masses, enlarged spleen, etc,
and also locate a good spot for the biopsy needle to hit.

Cheers - and good luck. Hope you score a big fat zero :-)

So do I :-)

So have you been doing anything to maximize liver health, like diet changes
or anything?  Maybe supplements?

If your VL is high, it might be that the doc is thinking treatment anyway,
and the sonogram and biopsy are more for indexing your case at a point in
time, if you know what I am trying to say.  I know that the in my case, it
seemed as though in order to get on the medicare=equivalent Tx wagon, the
biopsy was a prerequisite.  Maybe that is not the way things work in Spain.
?

As for the failure of FEMA ...  it's the same as what happened with the
upkeep at Walter Reed hospital... they re-organized the management of the
place, spun out contracts to instant companies who in turn mismanaged the
whole thing and nobody checked on anyone else to see that things were all
tight and not just a whitewash in a hive of activity.  It is a typical
result of greed infesting the community like galloping, sucking chest
wound... the new economics of the new world order.

Very little animal fat. No booze. I take Milk Thistle.

Oh, they will do one, she assured me and then make a treatment decision.

Hey Cody,
Good to hear you're finally on track for tx.  I haven't been checking ashc
lately, so my apologies if this is old news.
One bit of advice - if it is an option, go for the ultrasound-guided biopsy
procedure.  It still seems to vary widely from BCLD to BCLD re: preferred
techniques.  My first bx was a primitive blind stab requiring a 2-day
hospital stay.  My second bx was ultrasound-guided.  About 2 1/2 hours from
start to finish, including a mandatory 1 1/2 hour recovery.  Didn't really
feel much of anything.  I was surprised when the Radiologist told me he had
actually obtained 6 bx core samples.  A little discomfort for a couple of
days, then back to normal.
Prior to my current round of tx, BCLD eschewed the bx altogether.  Opting
instead for a couple abdominal CT scans.  Piece of cake.
Keep us posted.  How's the weather in Spain this Summer?  No repeat of the
disastrous heat wave of the past, I hope.

Not sure how they do it here.

Not nearly as hot as years gone by thank goodness. Only in the upper
20sC. Course, August is still upon us :-)
