Hey everyone,
I experienced some eye problems today that I wanted to see if anyone
has had any experience with.  I am going to call the doc first thing
tomorrow, but it is too late to tonight.  First let me start by saying
that I have been getting sharp pains in my left eye since I started
treatment but didn't really think too much about it.  I just thought
that was caused by the headaches.  Today I was looking in the mirror
and my face looked blurry.  I couldn't focus my eyes.  I looked at
Sydney and her face looked a little distorted to me as well.  My depth
perception seemed to be a little off because I was bumping into
things.  I was watching tv and could see it but it just looked a
little different.  I couldn't completely make out people's faces.  I
also felt a little dizzy and light headed.  I noticed that when I put
my hands up next to the side of my face I could't see my left hand.
I also started to get a little sick to my stomach.  It is getting
better.  I don't seem to have the blind spot any more, but my vision
still isn't 100%.  I have read past posts about people who developed
vision problems and had to stop treatment.  I really hope it is
nothing serious because I really want to finish this.  I guess that
the fact that it is getting better already is a good sign.  If anyone
has any experience with this I would really appreciate some input.
Thanks, Katie

Regardless of whatever is said here, see your eye doc pronto.
Better to be safe than....etc.

The combo drugs do mess with intra ocular pressure, which could explain at
least part of your symptoms. The episodes of tunnel vision and blind spots are
definitely worth a quick visit to the eye doc.

Hi Katie.   Wow you are good at articulating your symptoms.  That will help
the eye doctor diagnose the problem.  When I was on tx I had a lot of
superficial eye problems - my eyes were itchy and red and runny, but that
is different than having "internal" vision problems, which can be
dangerous.  When I described my blurry vision symptoms to my tx doctor, he
told me to stop the treatment drugs immediately and had his nurse call an
opthalmologist for a fast appointment.  Unfortunately that took a week.
The opthamologist determined that it was not the serious side effect
called interferon retinopathy and said I could resume treatment.  Then my
doctor's office dropped the ball and I didn't understand that I should
have followed up on it myself.  So I ended up having a four week lapse in
my treatment :-(

If the "blind spot" symptom you are having turns out to be interferon
retinopathy, it is possible that they will take you off treatment.  If I
were you, I would call the doctor who is handling your HCV treatment and
pressure his nurse to get you an appointment asap with an opthamologist in
your area, and also as a backup plan, make an appointment with your own eye
doctor as soon as possible.  You may have to push the staff so you can
avoid a lapse in you treatment. It sucks.  Especially when you are weary
from treatment.  But if you are informed and persistent (and polite!) You
get better results.

Here is a link about the vision side effects.

Take care, chicky.  Let us know.

You need to be examined by an opthalmologist ASAP, preferably one familiar
with Interferon retinopathy.

Contact your liver doc first thing in the morning and ask if he can refer
you to a knowledgable opthalmologist.  Don't be surprised if he wants you to
stop Interferon immediately.

You should treat any eye problems, especially those occuring during
treatment, as an emergency.

Eye doc ASAP as has been said already.  Hopefully it won't be the type
of problem that causes tx to stop.
I had eye probs on tx which were not serious but they sound very
different to yours.
