Do you want to know you died?

Sometimes when someone dies in their sleep or dies quickly, people say
it was for the best.

On the one hand, being aware of dying... having the experience of dying
for sure - the last hours and minutes, or seconds - might fill me with
panic - more so if death is not a sure thing, but maybe not so
panic-filled if it is an inevitable outcome over some period of time.

But I hate the idea of going and not ever knowing.

Once I had to have this heart procedure where they put me out with a
very fast, strong, but very short-acting drug.  I was under for a total
of about 3 minutes.

But when they said to count back from 100 and started to push the stuff
in, I had the thought that if I died during the procedure, this would be
my last experience.

I decided to try to get as far down from 100 as possible.

But the count down from 100 instruction is really a diversion - the
stuff hits you too fast to do any counting at all.

As I recall, I said "100" and the next thing I knew, the nurse was
saying, "Ah, look who's back with us."

Ah Ruskie, it's easy to see that you're well into tx with questions like
these. I used to think about such things a lot while on tx but since I've
finished (more than a wekk now!), they concern me less and less. Not that
your question isn't valid. it's just that we tend to think morbid things
like that on tx. At other times, we don't give them a second thought. But
since you ask, I think I'd prefer to have a bit of time but not too much. Or
alternatively, no time at all and pass away without even considering the
matter. What I wouldn't like would be just a few seconds, like a drowning
man must get. Time to think and panic.

cheers

I've always thought like this, even as a kid.

I'm like the guy in the back, in this joke:

----------
There's a seminar on the solar system, and the speaker is saying, "And
finally, theory tells us that in about 4 billion years, the sun will
expand into a red giant, incinerating Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars."

A guy in the back jumps up and yells, "What the hell did you just say?!?!?"

The speaker says, "I just said that science tells us that life on earth
will end in about 4 billion years."

The guy in back says, "Oh thank god!!!  Whew!!! What a scare!!! ... I
thought you had said 'in 4 MILLION years'!"

Hey, man!  If I die without knowing it, would you send me an email?  I'm
sure they've got the internet where I'm going.

for some strange reason, now I can't stop thinking about that old joke
that goes "I want to die peacefully in my sleep, just like my
grandfather - NOT like all those crazy screaming idiots in his back
seat..." !!!  ~ Deb
