24 Week Update - Didn't Clear It

Hi I'm the guy who did the Class of 2007 post, so some of you heard
from me before.  I'm a 34 year old male with Hep C Genotype 1.  Today
I found out that I will be stopping my treatment because I did not
clear the virus by week 25 (it's supposed to be by week 24 I know but
I was out of town and had agreed to do the labs a week later).  I
share with you my history as some of you had questions about Viral
Load to ALT relationship.

TIME: VIRAL LOAD - ALT

Initial: 3,074,450 - 100

Week 4 - 237,645 - 103

Week 12: 37,907 - 100

Week 25: 46,751 - 51

I was doing the weekly Pegasis shot with 3 Ribovirin pills twice a
day, and another weekly shot of Neupogen to wake up the bone marrow to
make some white cells.

Being super anal, I will continue for another week just so I can take
my final shot, it will be Week 28 and pop some more pills to finish
strong.

I've been told at least the last 7 months have given my liver a little
break from the dragon, and may prevent liver cancer.

I do not regret going through the treatment, I knew it would either
work or not.  I did not want to be 5 or 10 years older hearing, man if
you only tried the treatment when you were in your mid thirties you
would have had a much better chance... know what I mean.  I tried it
so now I know.

So now I live and wait for the next cocktail, don't worry about me I
am in great health otherwise, don't drink, don't smoke, can't wait to
start the gym again (as I went on inactive do to the fatigue), I love
to run and cycle.

I will check on you all from time to time, so be on your best
behaviour unless you're on Ribo than it's a free for all !!!

Sorry to read this, MugZee. Your liver was on a bit of a vacation for six
months and that's a good thing, but it still sucks that therapy doesn't work
for everyone, every time. Hopefully there'll be something better soon.

Good that you're in great health and you're taking care to avoid harmful
vices. Keep that up and you'll outlive us all :-)

Very sorry to hear that - the Class of 2007 post was inspiring so you
made that contribution to others.  Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear that, any suggestion about Induction Therapy?  I was
a non responder also. (6million down to 2 million)  I waited a month,
found another NP to oversee my treatment with daily Infergen, Riba and
Amantadine and I also used Pegasys cutting the Infergen to 3 times a
week plus the Riba and Amantadine.  Bingo!  I will finish treatment
the first week of November but will be adding the daily Infergen the
last month of treatment to kill any buggers hiding.   Time will tell
whether this works for me, I have great hope it will.

Good thing you are taking care of yourself, I wish you the best.

Sorry to hear tx failed, by the way it failed not you. I've been there
twice and am waiting to go through it again. Best of luck to you, and
you might as well stick around for a while.

Sorry to hear that. It looks like you responded to treatment. Perhaps if you
took a year and a half of treatment...
Anyhow, you are fit enough, you can wait for the new generation of drugs.
Stay well,

MugZee it's always disappointing when the treatment doesn't work out
or somebody relapses and I've seen it happen enough in this group
alone.  But sounds like you have the right attitude and no doubt
treatment will improve soon to get the results better for those with
Geno 1.  Take care.
