what a long strange trip it's been

I'm now in week 46 and have only 2 weeks or so of tx to go. Today I pick up
from the pharmacy my last 2 Peg-interferon pens. This is the first time I
won't be coming home with a box of 4. Nor will I be getting any more rebetol
pills. I have just enough left to last me another 2 weeks. I still can't
believe that I'm almost finished. It seems such a long time ago that I was
starting off on this trip. I've seen 4 seasons come and go starting and
ending with Spring. I'm looking forward to getting my health back and to
doing some exercise again. During tx, walks are about all that I can manage
but before tx I used to cycle and jog. I'm also looking forward to a long
holiday before I start work again. I just hope that this tx has done the
trick. I'll be devastated if I don't get my SVR.  I think I have a pretty
good chance. Although I am genotype 1A, I had a lowish VL of around
1,000,000 and achieved a 3 log drop by week 4. I've been undetectable
thoughout tx since the 12 week test.

Good job, Jack!
It's a great feeling to be able to see the finish line, ain't it?
You'll be amazed how quickly you start to recover from the battle.

Were you able to maintain the dosages throughout your therapy - no reductions
or stoppages? If so you have a really good shot at the prize!

Cheers - and let us know the good news when you get your 6 month post-therapy
SVR check. We love good news here :-)

Thanks Grey. It IS a good feeling (but it's amazing how long 2 weeks can
take!).

I did have some reduction in interferon early on in tx due to low
neutrophils. Here in France that's what they tend to do rather than offer
Procrit. I had 3 weeks where I injected 100 µg instead of the usual 120. I
still got the 3 log drop at week 4 with that dose though. Other than that,
tx went like clockwork.

cheers

Congrats, Jack!  You're almost a shoe-in for SVR.  Give it a month or so
after tx before you take off on vacation, you'll have a lot more energy
by then.  Enjoy!

Thanks Elmo. Your encouragement has been a great help. My tickets are booked
for May 3rd, one month after I stop tx. But hey, I'll be on vacation. I
won't be pushing myself too hard for a while.

cheers

According to what I know, you should stand an excellent chance of getting
that SVR, Jack.  Take it easy and don't try to get everything done at once.
You may find that it takes a while for your brain to shed the fog of tx.  My
personality (pre-tx) came back gradually in waves.  I still have some tx
associated symptoms 18 months since the end of my round, though.

congratulations...

Thanks CJ. I'll be taking it easy for a while yet. If I do try cycling or
jogging again, it will be a gradual start no doubt. What sort of symptoms do
you still have 18 months after tx? Sure it's not just getting older. I have
trouble sometimes distinguishing what is normal and what isn't.

cheers
