I got a call from my BCLD's office today. They tell me that my Viral load is
50.I have been undetectable since October of 05.I've been doing the daily
Infergen routine since June 05.I'm on a 2 year treatment.I was due to
complete tx June 7th 2007.I will be seeing the Doc this Thursday.I guess I'm
sh.t outta luck now. This is my 3rd attempt & I doubt that I have any other
options.I haven't tried the Vertex trial.Maybe he will offer me that.I do
have cirrhosis. From what I've read & heard from heppers that had
transplants, some have said that they wouldn't do it again.I don't think that
it's worth going through the hell of having a transplant.Given the poor odds
of living a normal productive life again.
Peace Be With You,
BrianD

Damn, Brian. I'm really sorry to hear about this, you were so brave to even
take on this regimen. It sucks that it might be over too soon.
Will your doc re-run the test just to make sure before stopping tx?
Is your cirrhosis still compensated? Are you essentially asymptomatic wrt the
liver disease? If so, you'd still be a long way from a transplant (ask Thipper
:-) and with luck vx950 or something else will be there before you bubble up
high on anyone's list...

Thanks for asking Grey. These are the results after re-running the test. This
happened once before in Oct 06 and he re-ran the test(he did the more
sensitive test)and it came back undetectable then.I am compensating and
asymptomatic for now.But my viral low was something like 42 million before I
started my current tx.I got SVR in about 12 weeks give or take a couple of
weeks.Go figure.

It aint over til the fat lady sings, Brian. Has your doc suggested
stopping tx?
50 is next to nothing...perhaps your next test will be 'undectable'
again.(?)

And this fat lady still ain't singing. Depressing news, but definitely not
the end of the road. Hang in there, my friend, and you and I will get
through this together.

bull, brian, bobby h had a liver transplant. before he woke up, the
new liver failed. a third liver was placed in him before he came to. he
is alive today. thats been about 8 yrs. ago. his original liver was
completely toasted. his head was like an pumpkin. he almost died waiting
for a transplant. i remeber driving by his house. he was mowing the yard
with a pushmower. beat anything ive seen yet. This drug zadaxin can be
purchased thru a pharm. co. in panama. thru the fda's compassionate
program also. it helps with liver regeneration. used in conjuntion with
peg and co-peg its pulled several thru, never say never. dont give up,
man. when there is still there is still hope. Talk to your doc about
this. peace, Randy

A transplant is not a walk in the park, but it beats the alternative.

I am sorry to hear that Brian.
The only thing I'd say is to fight until there's hope and indeed there
is hope. I am at least referring to Vertex and Schering studies.
Don't give up, give a chance to them too as I also think treatment
prevents your liver from getting worse, doesn't it?
Hope this helps,
jeeb.

Next time you talk to the doc would you ask him what the chances of re
infecting yourself are?
I have heard this mentioned in the group before. I never remember all
the questions I need to ask when I go to the doc. I don't get to see
the doc half of the time which really sucks because it is an hour and
a half drive.

Well I saw my BCLD yesterday. He discontinued my tx.He told me that even with
my viral load at a low 50 that as long as I've been on this round of tx I
should be undetectable. He gave me the information regarding the Vertex trial
and will check my viral load in 3 weeks.I have a couple of month's supply of
Infergen and RibaVirin left.I'm tempted to continue taking it.Maybe I should
get another opinion.A lot of people here use the University Clinic.I hear
it's a real pain in the a.s though. The clinic makes their pt's jump through
a lot of hoops.

I understand the temptation but please don't do it. Maybe you were
just thinking aloud but don't intend to use the drugs.
Without proper monitoring, continuing tx is, at worst, potentially
fatal.
I'm sorry to read that you have a viral load. It must be pretty awful
to go through tx and still have active virus.
