Doug's wife, Cindi, e-mailed me last night and said that Doogie passed
away January 15th.  I'm going to speak to her on the phone tonight and
I'll know more then about what happened.

Thanks for the news, Elmo.  It was apparent something was going wrong when
Cindi wrote this group about his condition, recently.  That is sad.

Dammit. We're gonna miss ol' Doogie.
He hid the extent of his condition too well...

Sad news.  Seems like ashc folk are not doing so well lately.   Hopefully,
the class of 2007 can turn that around.

I spoke with Cindi last night.  It wasn't the hep that killed Doug.
Apparently, Doug acquired polio when he was 9.  He was totally paralyzed
from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair.  His arms were
partially paralyzed.  In October, Doug started having severe pain
whenever he ate anything, about all he could eat were a few small bites.
He'd had all the tests checking out his digestive system and the
conclusion was that his polio had made his colon degenerate.  Doogie
withered away and after a final stay in the hospital, died at home with
his family.

Doug's fantastic wife, Cindi, wants to join our group but doesn't know
how to use NG's.  She's going to need help figuring it out and since
it's different for me, as a webtv user, perhaps someone else can give
her a hand.

Send her this:

1. Open Outlook Express
2. Tools/Accounts
3. Click on the Add
4. Choose News
5. Follow the Wizard, put *anything* where it asks for name and email.
The name is what will appear as the Sender in the newsgroups. She should
NOT use her real email address unless she likes spam. Put in aioe.org
where it asks for a news server.
6. Click on the newly formed aioe.org group in the Folder Tree and it
will ask you if you want to subscribe to news groups. Click on "yes". OE
will download all the newsgroups that aioe.org carries. In the Search
field, search for "hepatitis" without the quotes and both groups will
appear. Highlight the one you want and click on the Subscribe button.

Done.

Assuming he used Outlook Express, all she has to do is open it and click
on the + sign next to the news server and then on
alt.support.hepatitis-c. To send a message, all she has to do is click
on the icon on the upper left hand side that says "write message". If
she wants to reply to a message, she should right click on the message
she wants to reply to and choose Reply to Newsgroup.

It was worse than that.  Doug had only 40% lung capacity....the actual
