Hi gang.  Ever get tired of reading about what you SHOULDN'T eat? Here is a
nice list of food for heppers, and the link.  Remember Kids: Food is
nutrition, not alternative medicine.  My pet peeve.

Koko

http://janis7hepc.com/Diets%20for%20HCV.htm

Foods you CAN eat!

Whole wheat bread

Whole grain cereals

Cheerios !

Malt O Meal

Oatmeal

Cream of Wheat

Brown rice

Vegetables

Beans, all kinds

Refried beans

Lots of vegetable juices

Fresh fruit in moderation (1-2 pieces per day)

Better Than Milk - a soy product

Soy-Sation Chedder Cheese by Lisanatti.

It's certified organic soybeans, and yes, it does taste like cheese and it
even melts. Miracles never cease!

Corn tortillas - love those tacos

Organic flour tortillas made with unbleached white or whole wheat flour

Salsa - if it doesn't bother you, go for it

Canned tuna

Pasta

Spices and herbs

Herbal teas

Organic unbleached flour (white) in moderation

Organic Virgin Olive Oil

Flaxseed Oil

Homemade Vegetable Soup

Baked chips

Nayonaise instead of mayonnaise

Mustard

Pickles in moderation (who eats a lot of them anyway?)

Okay, those are some of the foods you can eat. Now let's get a little
creative here and slap a few of those together.

Here are just a few dishes you can make using healthy foods.

Spaghetti - with or without a meat substitute

Macaroni and CHEESE - use the Soy-Sation or a tofu cheese

Tacos - using a meat substitute and lots of seasoning

Toastados

Enchiladas

Hamburgers - there are lots of meat substitutes at the health food store.
I use one called Gimme Lean. There are also recipes for grain burgers that
are pretty good.

Hot dogs - tofu hot dogs - I am not fond of these but can tolerate them
with chili beans.

Chili Beans

Tuna Salad

Chicken Salad - made from canned chicken

Puddings - sweetened with liquid Stevia, using Better Than Milk

Cake - in moderation using unbleached flours. Eat desserts in moderation

Distilled water with a little lemon or lime juice and liquid stevia makes
a great drink and NO CALORIES

Whole wheat waffles or pancakes - top with a fruit puree sweetened with
liquid stevia

Ultimate Meal- this is a great healthy drink. I add a banana and 1/2 cup
unsweetened apple juice.

Pizza! - whole wheat crust and vegetarian and CHEESE

Homemade yogurt with or without fruit- sweeten it with liquid stevia.

Baked potatoes topped with cheese, or a vegetable or both.

Hi Kjoh

Good list, thanx, and youre right there are so many "lists" whith "not
to?s".
Im having problems of weightloss and wonder if you or anyone has any
ideas on how to gain weight.
Im on my 23rd week of 48 and im a small fellow, only 150 lbs when i
started tx and im down to 127 lbs now.
I eat a as much as i can and it usually comes down to breakfast and an
eavening meel each day, i dont get hungry during the time inbetween.
I have seen these sportsdrinks with carbohydratees and protein but im
not sure if the are any good, i eat chocolate though, but no gain.

Any ideas?

Cheers

"Any ideas?"

Cookies :-) that's what you need.  IMO sweet bite-sized junk food is the
way to go when you are struggling for calories and energy.  So get your
skinny butt to a grocery store and head for the cookie aisle.  Pepperidge
Farm cookies are spendy but delish.   Also get some good old Fig Newtons
and some oatmeal types so you get a little fiber with your junk.  Then
head for the frozen dessert section.  Look for frozen berry pies, custard
and pumpkin pies.  All that evil stuff you trained yourself for years to
stay away from.   Refer also to Ben and Jerry's mint chocolate chip ice
cream.  Mmm   It doesn't take very much of those kind of desserts to add
an extra thousand calories to your day.  The sport drinks probably won't
add many calories, but they will help with electrolyte balance.  That was
a problem for me too.  I like gatorade and a vitamin-loaded powder mix
called Emergen-C.

One last item - olive oil - the good stuff.  Use it liberally in place of
any other oil in your kitchen.  All this stuff is expensive, but it
matters.  My weight dropped from 145 to 110 during tx and I really came to
regret it.  Toward the end I was scrambling for calories and nutrients.
Good luck bud.

Ice cream....lots of ice cream made with heavy cream.  Don't forget the
chocolate sauce with some peanuts sprinkled on top.  Try to eat at least
a quart a day.  :-)

I *wish* I could have had ice cream while on therapy, maybe I could have kept
some of the 40 pounds I lost. But my teeth were so screwed up by the third
month or so, a mere swig of cool water would cause the kind of exquisite pain
Dick Cheney would love to employ.

I suggest anyone going into tx get their teeth cleaned, x-rayed, and any
caries drilled 'n' filled, if planning on going the ice cream route...

Cheers - and happy eating! :-)

Thanks, Hal.  It's good to be able to post again.  Like they say, "sh.t
happens". If you ever make it over here to the good ole US of A, you
have a standing invitation to drop by for some of my bbq baby backs.
They cook really well on the smoker.  I'll have plenty of walnut and
maple to cook with, much of it is laying in my back yard.
:-)
