I am Genotype 1a just  starting week 18 of the Pegasus/ribavirin
treatment.

I just received my week twelve PCR results today. I was undetectable
at week twelve. The rash is driving me crazy but I guess I can put up
with it.

The rash. I've tried various over the counter anti-itch/moisturizing
creams and antihistamines. The one that has worked the best so far is
Gold Bond Ultimate Strength Body Lotion. It relieves the itch for an
hour or two. Today my Dr gave a prescription for a triamcinolone
cream. I'll give that a try.

Not sure if this is the same thing but the only thing that always worked for
me was a prescription ointment that my wife had:

Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment USP

Congratz, talk to me about the rash, I am on week 14 and just busted
out with this crazy rash, it is on the tips of both my middle fingers,
and here's the crazy part, quarter sized perfect circle on the inside
of my left forearm just past where a watch would be, and some more
perfectly round circles just under the belly button closer to the inner
thighs... nuts I tell ya, nuts

hep nurse is on holiday for 2 weeks, and my family doc has me on
Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 0.1% - and HydrOXYzine HCI Tablets,
USP - - -  I don't think it's working

Are you sure those spots are a rash?  Sounds more like a fungal infection.
Ask your doc to do a skin scraping - fast, easy and diagnostic without
waiting 2-4 weeks for culture results.

One more thing - how's your blood sugar?  Had it checked lately?  Could be a
contributing factor.

Great News, Bob! I too am 1a, just completed treatment and went from
6.2 milion to undetectable at 12 weeks. I remained undetectable thru
treatment, so April is actually when I get my one year PCR. Best of
luck, hang in there, hope you have your crash helmet on :)

That is quite excellent news!

There are a lot of different things to try - I've tried almost every
suggesting given in this newsgroup and constructed my methodology from
those.

Everyone is different, but my things are:

- I don't stand in the water while showering - I point the showerhead
down, get wet, soap up, wash it off.  All with luke warm water.
- At the end, I do a very warm rinse off to get all traces of soap out
of the pores.  Just one minute of this.
- Then I go to lukewarm for 30 seconds, then cool, then coldish, the
only cold water.  I can't stand in the cold water, but I can do each arm
and leg one at a time, then my back, then head.
- Step out of shower, turn off cold water, turn on only hot, steam up
the place while patting down try.
- Turn off water, open windows and doors, get the cold breeze.
- Do something like tv news for 5-10 minutes and let skin finish air drying.
- Lotion in the dry-rash places (rough skin) but Baby Powder in the
spotted places.
- Wear an undershirt or t-shirt under my shirt to minimize friction
contact with the shirt as I move about during the day.

That usually does it for the day.

Sometimes in the late evening, I get a sudden wave of itchiness.  I use
cold water in the sink on arms, cold shower on lower legs if needed.
Sometimes one advil also works.  Final bullet is to use benadril (I
don't like the feeling of benadril) - I take a child's chewable, which
is half a benadril.

A week ago, I started using a vaporizer in the room every night, and
that has helped a lot!

I also started taking 1000 mg Vitamin C each night - that might be
helping too.

My next thing will be to buy Neutrogena soap.

The rash, the daily (but shortlived) nausea, and the fatigue are my main
sides.  I'm irritable but I filled my wife in on it and she watches for
it and supports me to relax rather than jumping into an argument.  That
support is great.
