Hi guys,
So what do y'all think of this? Came in my email today, I replied that I'd
like to meet. I looked at the website, wonder what it can possibly mean in a
good way to heppers. Am I being too cynical? Any comments?

Hello All!
My name is Alison Stevens, I've recently attained a position at Healing Our
Spirit with the In the Spirit of Sharing Hepatitis C Project. My job
basically entails me traveling throughout out BC doing education workshops
in Communities that show interest in learning about Hep C, training
community members to educate their own community and bring awareness about
Hep C. We also will be working with inmates in the Institutes around the
Vancouver area. I attained your email address from the Hep C Canada web
page, I'm basically just updating all the resources/support available
throughout BC on Hep C, and some networking!! So hope to hear from you, and
possibly work together in the future! Thank you!
Take Care,
Alison J Stevens

Hi Spidey,
I visited the web page. It appears that these are arrangements for HepC
advocacy in Native communities and on the street across BC. First Nations
face conditions quite a bit more extreme than most of the other people in
the province. The risk profile that goes with the street life that many
wind up being involved with, and the relative lack of knowledge about such
risks as HepC and what to do to contain or avoid it fit well into the
healing circle concept of maintaining First Nations life and security in the
Native communities. There is a strong bonding between individuals and their
bands. This includes social and family responsibilities being re-enforced
in the sweat lodge and the other bonding and realization exercises that go
on during the healing sessions. I don't have any details, like most
non-natives, I have never been in a healing circle situation, but have
learned about them through the press and the internet.

Hmmm... maybe I'm a bit too cynical as well, but when HCV gets lumped in
with HIV/AIDS and other STDs I have to cringe. Yeah, it's probably
better than no attention at all, but still...
I'm not sure if that's the case here (there's no mention of HCV anywhere
on their pages, not to mention that their pages seem a bit
unprofessional) but maybe that's something you can talk about with
Alison when you meet.

Spidey, I'm a skeptic, but think it would be worth checking into. You've
been through this and made it through the other side. If you can use
your story to give hope to some hepper it may be worth it. You can
always tell them no thanks if you find your not interested.
