Hi - I just finished week 37 and for the last couple weeks have had
cracks on the corners of my mouth.  Has anyone else had that, and if
so, what did you do about it? It hurts like hell especially when I open
my mouth. I've been putting Aquafore on it, but that only helps
temporarily.  My friend who's a nurse said that people get the cracks
on the mouth with chemo - what next?  Also think my hair has started to
thin - I seem to find it everywhere -  I thought I was going to get by
without that side....The last couple weeks of treatment were really
bad, but this week was better, so I'm happy about that. Only about 11
weeks left! The end is in sight!

Week 32. My hair has gotten a little thin too. But I dont consider that
a significant side effect.

HI Di Di

Neosporin ointment works for my cracks in the side of my mouth,
or if my lips get really chapped.  For some reason regular chap
stick doesn't do much for me.

also I find when I start getting 'dry' spots, cracks or sores, I
up the water even more

I think Sara's suggestion is good. Early on in tx I got severe sores
inside my mouth and the NP gave me some liquid Erythromycin which did
the trick. It was only a couple of weeks then went away so maybe this
is only temporary... hopefully.

I started losing my hair around week 13 or so. Fortunately my hair
salon has experience with chemo patients and gave me a short layered
cut which worked out nicely since I have short pieces of regrowth along
with the few longer pieces I have left. Luckily, hair grows back so try
and keep that in mind when you see all that hair laying about.

Hi DiDi.  I finished 48 weeks of tx at the end of August.  I had the
same cracks at the side of my mouth and my tongue felt like it had riba
rash.  My dentist said I had a fungus infection in my gums and mouth
from the use of antibiotics during tx.  She prescribed nysatin liquid
and a cream and it healed in 3 days.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas. I did try triple antiobiotic
ointment on the cracks at the corners of my mouth and that seems to
help more than anything. I have a low white blood count, so that's
probably not helping me heal very fast. I appreciate all the great
ideas.
