Any Poisitive Points?

silkunicorn@gmail.com - 19 Aug 2006 05:32 GMT Hi, I have just started Neupogen and will be on 3 times a week. I came to this forum to find more information but mostly I found are negative comments. All the side effects, aching bones and feeling sick. It just made me more depressed and it's not my intention to come to this forum. Doesn't anyone has any positive things to say about Neupogen, how much it has helped you, etc.? Aren't we supposed to cheer each other up instead of making others feel depressed?

Nothing personal, but that could be a positive point. Sorry your stuck at home on Friday night.

I came > to this forum to find more information but mostly I found are negative [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > > Thomas I had low white and red counts. I really felt the low red counts, but the doc said the white count was disturbing him even more. I got taken off treatment around Week 18. I started doing some research and got the doc to check into Neupogen and Procrit. I was on both drugs for nearly two weeks without the treatment, and so got familiar with their side effects. The only side effect I noticed was a dull ache in the tops of my hip bones and in my joints. That's the Nupogen. It's nothing Tylenol can't manage. Keep in mind that the typical Neupogen patient is a cancer patient on chemotherapy. What *isn't* going to be wrong with that population?
My only real complaint is the syringe. The needles are as dull as a stick pin. For the price of that stuff, the needle should be gold plated titanium sharpened at a molecular level by nanobots!
I'm now taking Neupogen on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Procrit on Wednesday, and Interferon on Friday. I feel like a pin cushion, and I still am borderline low on the red count, but whites are right where they should be. Without both drugs, I might have been off treatment for good or had my dose reduced without them. So yeh, I feel pretty positive. I'm now counting down from 18.
Hang in there. If you can handle Interferon and Ribavirin, Neupogen is a cakewalk.

elmoemerson@webtv.net - 19 Aug 2006 18:08 GMT I was merely giving my opinion on your negative comments that you really didn't intend to post in our forum and that we depressed you. Like you said, it's a free country and you can post negative comments anywhere you like. Anyway, I empathize with you that the Neupogen is making your bones ache. I never had to do the stuff, but I've done quite a bit of Procrit. You are fortunate to have the opportunity to get Neupogen, that it will hopefully help you enough that your doc won't reduce your tx drug dosages and you'll get your SVR. Welcome to the forum. Barbara - 19 Aug 2006 17:51 GMT I don't even know what Neupogen is, so I can't answer that but I can answer why you are seeing "negative" commnets. It's mostly because, I am new here and not on tx and have been asking a lot of questions about side effects and these good people are answering me with their honesty and yes, their compassion and encouragement. The side effects do sound depressing but the fact remains they are there but these people have pulled through it and I believe should I take tx, they would help me through it. I wish you the best in your tx.

It should make you feel better when your white count gets more normalized. It's not as bad as the interferon that's for sure.
Someone mentioned that the needles suck for the neupogen and I agree. I got these things that you put into the neupogen bottle (instead of using the needle to draw it out) and then draw the med up into the syringe with it and then put the needle on. It's called a "interlink vial access cannula", so see if you can get those. The other thing is it hurts more to inject (at least for me), I think because it's thick, so I found out you're supposed to inject it real slow - up to a minute and a half - and that makes it not hurt. I did it that way last night and it was much, much better.
The positive thing about neupogen is it will get your white count up and you should feel better or at least you won't get some other infection because your white blood cells can't fight off infection. I think it's a good thing.

I didn't realize it was thicker, I figured it was because I was injecting a full ml. The aranesp hurts too but nothing like the Neup.

Ally //////// Perhaps if after you draw up your injection, you let it warm up really well by rolling the syringe back and forth in the palms of your hands for a minute, it won't sting quite as much when you inject it. But my best friend is a nurse who works in an outpatient treatment center (and she injects stuff like neupogen) and she just told me last night to do it real slow, that where she works, they go by what the patient tells them - if it hurts, they go even slower. We were trying to do it fast to get it over with!

Everything I went through, was worth it. I was a genotype 3a, and should have done the 24 week regimen. BUT, unfortunately I was a slow responder, and didn't clear at 24 weeks.
That being said, apparently I have a BCLD that has a brain, and he said "what the f.ck, I know you can do it mike" and he had me continue for the whole 48 weeks. Actually because of sheduling snafu's I actually did 52 weeks of the sh.t.
Not only did I clear, I got my SVR, and am now feeling GREAT. Don't get me wrong, I have some ups and downs, every so often I feel run down etc..
I'm thinking it may STILL be my Immune system recovering from all the TX meds pumped into me. After all, they STILL don't really know what exactly ALL the things that stuff does to us.
I guess my point being... Don't be afraid, you can do it. and once completed, you'll be glad you did.
