Well, I started tx today. The anticipation of giving myself an
injection was much more painful then the actual injection. Had the
injection a couple hours ago and so far feel ok , just  a little warm.

Well, guess I'm going to go lie around watch some movies....

Take care

Hey there h00, I remember Tx interrupted by gastric infection and then
appendicitis. Better fortune and safer slaying this time.
Sara - 18 Aug 2006 18:56 GMT
Bob

you may want to consider doing your injection at bedtime -- I
take 2 regular strength tylenol about an hour before, then I do
the injection around ten pm.... and sleep thru most of the side
effects.  Sometimes I'm a little feverish next day, and/or
headachy, but nothing that tylenol won't help.

GL on your treatment!  I hope it flies by for you.

Bob, congratulations on starting.  I've been on the roller-coaster
since January (18 weeks to go!).

There have been some other good suggestions here, such as taking the
shot at bedtime with Tylenol, perhaps with a Benadryl to help you
sleep.  The only thing I'd add is to let you know that the sides
usually tend to level off after a few weeks.  The body is a pretty
remarkable machine -- it tends to adapt.  This is not much fun, but
it's doable!

Best of luck!

Thank you for the reply and thank everyone here for the words of
encouragement.

I do plan to start doing the injection near bedtime on Friday. It was
early today only because it was 'training day'.

A a  few chills this afternoon and I am feeling a bit worse  (ok quite
a bit worse)  than when I posted this morning. However , it's
certainly manageable.

Off to drink some more water.....

Welcome to the Club Bob. Pull up a spot on the couch, chill out, smoke a
Doobie, watch a good movie, and hold on.

Actually, you might be one of the lucky ones that has sides that are
mild. whichever you have, SLAY THE DRAGON.

Welcome to our little corner of hell. May your sides be minimal and your
response be maximal..;-)

My recomendations; drink alot of H2O. Use the formula - 0.5 oz per pound of
body weight as a BASELINE, the more the better, just not all at once.
Also, goto the drug store and get you some SAM-e it's OTC and it is a big
improvement on your odds of SVR. I take 800mg per day on an empty stomach.
Rite-aid usually has the best deal (here in US.)

Best of luck....ChefX

Just out of interest, where did you get the idea that SAM-e has any effect
whatsoever on the odds of SVR?

I'm gonna offer you the same advice I do all the newbies starting tx.

Put on your space helmet, fasten your seat belt, and enjoy the view out

That's the best I can do....

Hi Mags

Thanks for asking. I'm feeling fine today. Friday night was a little
bit rough. I had the chills for an hour so along with other mild flu
like symptoms a horrible headache.

Saturday morning I was pretty close to feeling normal.

One thing I have noticed is that I have been sweating a LOT. Is that a
side effect of the tx?

First few weeks were the worst for me.  Typically, the body will adapt.
Sweating and a screwed up temp regulator are typical.  I typically
take the jab on Friday and see the worst sides on Sunday afternoon, but
it's now nothing I can't manage with Tylenol.  Watch for shortness of
breath and a racing heartbeat.  That's an indicator of anemia which
makes everything a hundred times worse.

Hang in there.  It gets better.

Yes, sweating (diaphoresis) is one of the flu-like side effects of
interferon. I experienced it mostly after the first injections, along
with low-grade fever. Those sides stopped presenting after the first
two or three weeks, and I understand that response is typical.

Hiya Bob

Nice to hear that the first days werent too rough, as you mention
(above) i also experience sweating, a LOT.
It´s still late summer in Sweden 20-22C so i have the AC on at home
all the time and drive around in my car whith the AC on low, it´s
freezing inside and comfortable, im longing for a really survere
winter.
The sweating diminishes after a couple of weeks, for me anyway, so i
hope things will lighten up for you too.

Hang in there Bob, if you have a big deepfreezer, klimb in!
