Hi everyone,

My hair has been thinning pretty bad as of late. (Past few months) I'm not
really sure where the thinning is coming from. When tx started it triggered
a serious case of psoriasis This includes my scalp. I'm not 100% sure P
causes hair thinning or not.

Did - or does - anyone else have thinning hair due to tx? Did it come back
in?

There are a lot of us that had hair thinning while on tx. For many it
came back as soon as tx stopped. My hair is still migrating south, but
that is probably just heredity at work. :)

So far I haven't lost any hair(after over 13 months of treatment). But it has
become very straight all over my body.Even my pubes. It looks very bizzare.

my naturaly curly hair went flat and dull and brittle. I just kept it cut
short. It took a year after treatment for it to get the curlyness back. It's
about how it was when I started treatment 3 years ago today.

Mine started thinning about 8 weeks into tx. I am now at 15 weeks and
probbaly lost about half my hair but since it was very thick to begin
with, it still looks somewhat decent. If I were a guy I'd just shave it
off.

Yes its because of tx.  Mine came out rather bad but Have been off tx
for almost a month and already have regrowth.  Its just another joy of
tx, hun.

In tx for 12 weeks now with some thinning thank god I have very thick
hair and barely noticeable. A friend of mine lost most of his hair in
tx in clumps but returned completely and curly to top it off.

Perfectly normal

Horseshit!!  Hair doesn't fall out in clumps from treatment with hepc tx
drugs.  It may thin from drying out and may grow straight, but it
doesn't fall out in clumps like it does in cancer chemotherapy.  Who's

Hey Elmo,
Let's qualify your statement, mate.  It will come out in clumps if you
pull it out during a rage fest.  Otherwise it breaks off and then becomes
baby hair after tx, and your original herpes hairpiece I mean, gets back to
pre-treatment after a while.  It took me more than six months to get my
billy crystal hairball back.  Oh, I see, you said fall out.  well, anyway I
wanted to jive you so be it then.

You are correct on the clump hair loss, the information I got was
second hand. The way my hair is thinning is a few folicles ar a rime. I
notice when I'm on the on th pot I rub my head to test the "clump
theory" I see about 30 to 40 separate folicles on the bathroom floor. I
have tried to pull my hair throughout my head to see if my hair will
come off in clumps to no avail.

No, I'm wrong.  If you sit there on the toilet and pull on your hair
hard enough, it'll come out in clumps.  :-)  But don't tell anyone I
told you to do it.  If you do manage to pull clumps, post us a picture,
would ya?

After a humiliating session in nightschool yesterday, I feel compelled
to set the record straight on this question about clumps falling out.
First, it is true that my hair has never fallen out in clumps, neither
before nor during treatment. Of course, I can't say for sure what all
might happen as treatment progresses, but can predict with certainty
that my hair won't be falling out in clumps because I cut it and the
buzz cut that remains is now thinning like a scary-movie vampire in the
full light of the sun.

So enough about hair  -- it's my a.s that's the problem. Last night as
I sat in the hot classroom and watched the walls melt during a lecture
on symbolic logic, my a.s fell off in big clumps. I kid you not. I felt
so helpless. There was nothing I could do. I even tried using both
hands to hold my a.s on, but it was no use.

In MY case, this would be a GOOD thing....  I could easily afford
to lose a few clumps of my a.s!  :))

what's wrong with Elmo's language?  And he's not expressing an
opinion, he's stating something he has learned over several years
of dealing with the Hep-C Virus.  It would serve you well to pay

After about a month when I first went on interferon, I started
noticing tha tmy hands were full of hair after washing it.  And my
towel had lots of hair after drying my head -- to the point that i'd
shake it out before  drying the rest of me.  And I noticed having to
clear the shower drain after a shower because of the hair matted on
it. And I have short (about 2" long) hair.  This is the first time
I've ever had to do this.  I ended up with 2 very thin spots on the
top sides of my head (like where men's hair recedes) that could easily
be covered up by styling.

BUT, no one else knew that my hair was thinning so badly.  It totally
wasn't visible.  And the spots have totally regrown back in.

The funny thing is when I went on treatment a couple years later
(first time didn't work, second time was the same drug (Intron/A) in
combo with riba), I was prepared for this to happen again.  Nope.  No
noticeable hair thinning/loss at all.

Wierd.

Over the last month I've started losing a lot of hair, not quite clumps,
but a lot of hair. Even my wife has commented on it. The bad part is
that I quit tx almost two years ago. Maybe tx is just now kicking in. :)
I wouldn't mind being bald and virus free, or for that matter, hairy and
virus free. Oh well, there will be another attempt at tx eventually.

Yeah Puck...hair loss seems to be the norm. Use a very gentle shampoo and
conditioner...maybe even get one of those leave in conditioners. Only wash
your hair when you absolutely have to. Sprits it daily with the leave in
conditioner to freshen or get rid of serious bed head.
The eyebrow hairs sticking straight out really had me going for a while
there.I am now 3 months post tx and the hair situation is getting better.

Oh, poor Toe, you're obsessing again :-(

Shampoo/wash your head/hair as frequently as you wish-- many toxins are
released through the skin (scalp is skin) when you're on tx, and when your
liver isn't up to par. This can cause itching, and washing away the residue
will relieve this.

Shave your head, it will grow back thicker than ever after tx. Many women
think that guys with shaved heads are uber-sexy.

ahahahahahahahaha!!!  You 'asked' your wife if she'd let you shave your
head?  It's worse than I thot.  If she hasn't already done it, she's
gonna 'de-nut' you too.  But if you've still got your balls, shave your
head the next time she heads off to work.  You're in control of what's
growing on your head, or not.  Show her who's the hair boss!  She'll get
a kick out of your shiny red head.  And while you're at it, get your
hands out of your pants..... no wonder your joint hurts!
