Hi everyone. Hey Greyhackels, thanks for your so very correct answer to my
last post long time back. Sorry I didn't thank you then and apologies to
all here. Not meaning to be rude. (Welcome to you new folks.) I guess since
then the cat has had my tongue, but I got the dragon by the tail, i think.
)I said I wouldn't come into this being a whiner, so just let me say I got
a whole new respect for those of you that have been through it. Especially
for those that stick around to help others. Grey, you knew what you were
talking about. She started me out on the procrit (epogen?)Hemo was way
down more and she was worried about kidney functions. Took second awkward
as hell procrit today (in between trying to get farm chores done...f*k
that, eh?) Full flimsey syringe the whole damn vial on Tuesdays and the
interferon on Thursday. She knocked off another Riba so I'm only taking
three a day. Don't know what's up with that, maybe back on more after red
goes up? Also weight back down in 50's, heck it's been years since this
skinney guy has weighed that. (Drinking much water. you gotta do it guys,
listen to Grey.) Knew something was going wrong when couldn't climb stairs
and faint and fall spells. Feel little better now, trusting Elmo when he
says after couple weeks on procrit feel better... Asked about Viral count
and it was "25." Although I'm not sure what it means she said: "It's
Negative." Somedays sleep for 12 to 15 hours and stil tired but lately
lucky to get two hours a night and I'm getting sick of that. Lot of trips
to Hospital and lots to the clinic. Derm sent (I've turned into a leopard
guy. http://tinyurl.com/otvmv ) and 7 .lb package (no bull) of different
topicals, lotions etc and some hydroxyzine tablets to stop the nightly itch
fests (damn lost all the skin off hands and feet (not whining just
reporting) None of the crap works. Derm more or less says "hey you just got
a tough it out until tx is over, it's all part of the big picture." I'd
think the hydro's working with the cyclobenzaprine (both are supposed to
cause drowsiness) would help me sleep but they actually work the oppisite I
think. Damn house is starting to look like a pharm. Lot of rage and emo.
But Kid for an eight year old really has a handle on what Dad is going
through and really is the biggest grown-up kid ever. I can't say how much,
how great he is. I know his summer is suffering because of this, but he
doesn't show it. Normally it's a very active summer with lots of boating,
campimg, fishing, concerts, etc. This year no. But I've been Ebaying for
him a lot (-:
Anyway, I'm usually here, reading along. I check in and if it's flame war
city I check right out. I look for those that post that hold this group
together with good solid support and knowlege of the topic (You all know
who you are:) (I get enough of the other stuff here in reality land.) Just
checking in to say thanks, keep up the good work and good fight. You
really are helping others. Only 17 more weeks to go!

Hi Den! It's good to know you're still out there and fully engaged with your
slugfest against the virus. Sounds like you're winning the battle in spite of
the worst the virus can throw at you - keep it up!
Fwiw, I took 50mg hydroxyzine hcl three times per day through therapy, and
still believe it helped with the skin issues/itching. But they did make me
feel drowsy - I guess I'm surprised they aren't having the same effect, but
everyone's body chemistry is different, I reckon.
Looking back at my therapy log, it did take a few weeks for the Epogen/Procrit
to start working its magic on my Hemoglobin count. At the third week it had
jumped up from bottom of 8.2g/dl to 9.4g/dl; four weeks from that point I was
up to 10.1g/dl, and eventually got up as high as 10.4 g/dl, over the rest of
my tx. Not exactly the poster child for the efficacy of Procrit ;-) but at
least I could put one foot in front of the other the rest of the way.
At 50kg, 600mg of Riba may be sufficient. It does sound low, but then 50kg is
true "bantam weight" territory :-) so it may be fine. When the EPO kicks your
blood counts up enough perhaps your doc will let you try to add back one more
Riba/day and see how that goes, but I don't think I'd be too worried about
this right now.
Isn't it amazing how even the very young can grasp what's going on with their
parents? Good for your 8 year old - give him a big squeeze for us!
Keep your eye on the prize, Den. It's the one thing that'll see you through
the sx, when nothing else seems to make any sense...
Cheers

Take care of yourself Den. And hang in there. I was itchy scratchy boy

helped me out. Again, Take care of yourself. You can do it.
