I'm going take my first shot and have my first meal of Ribavirin tonight.
I'm optimistic but just in case I have a loaded .38 revolver next to the
bed.  If this is my last post you can assume it didn't go very well.

ahahahahahahahahahahaha! Is that you again, Burke? ;-)

Lose the revolver - or at least, lose all of your ammunition.
Especially if you're not doing anti-depressants;-)

Cheers...

I'm not taking any anti-depressants yet.  What should I ask for?  Sleeping
pills, anti-depressants?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Has anyone
tried one of those Tasers?  I wonder if anyone ever shot themselves with a
taser.   Zzzzzzzzzzzzzap

Seriously, there are a number of antidepressants mentioned by HCV
survivors who have posted to ash-c. And clearly, antidepressants often
prove to be an indispensable part of effective treatment. So far, I'm
not using any, but it might be prudent soon.

Yesterday I was riding home on the city bus when I realized it's been a
long time since I took the bus -- so long, in fact, that I'd entirely
forgotten how the experience grates on the mind like a bad case of
scabies on acid. But then I realized that everything is starting to
seem like that.

Sometimes, for hours at a time, I'm absolutely amazed how the drugs
clear my mind so well that I can finally comprehend the dark pit of
despair that is the best life has to offer. They say if I can maintain
that kind of clarity for more than a day or two, then I should call the
doctor right away.

Oh, about antidepressants. You can read about these and other
pharmacological interventions used to treat adverse events related to
administration of interferon and ribavirin by finding the "Hepatitis C
Clinical Pathway" document posted by Mario Bonacini, M.D., on the
California Pacific Medical Center website. Presently, on version 6.0c
of this document, you can find information about antidepressants and
other adjunct therapies on pages 31 and 32. The URL is
http://www.cpmc.org/advanced/liver/physicians/hcv-pathway.pdf

Tazers are available elsewhere, I am sure. But just like the 38
caliber, you really won't be needing one of these either, IMO.

Burke, honey you got them ol' Ribavirin Blues. I've had a few rounds with
bad depression in my wierd life (a family trait), but none was more fun
than my adventures on tx. Except possibly the time when I swallowed some
funky windowpane and looked in the bathroom mirror and watched my face
peel off the front of my skull...anyway i am happy to report that the
particularly nasty brain chemistry that accompanies tx is temporary.

While on tx, avoid urban bus rides, hand guns and sweaty arabs

Yes. :-)

Lorazepam (1-2mg) and Zoloft (200mg) worked for me (9+ months).

Pot, if you're OK with that. Helps with mood, appetite, sleep and nausea.
Not covered by BCBS though.

Nope, the new poster is not me. Looks like we might have another
wacked-out roller-coaster rider in the group though.

By the way, Richard Klein, I want you to know that you can save the
high-velocity projectiles for better times. For now, the drugs by
themselves will be plenty enough to blow your brains out.

Peace.

Hello Richard.  Mommy doesn't live here anymore. However, you might want to
purchase your very own copy of Forrest Gump and view it daily throughout
the duration of tx.  I completed a year of combo tx last February.  I am
quite sure I would have failed without taking Ambien for sleep and Lexapro
for depression.  I had been taking both for years before I started, so I
didn't have to make that particular chemical transition while on tx.  I
still take them.  My advice is don't get strung out on bullshit
psychosociopolitical issues associated with drug dependence. If you need
anti-d's or sleep meds, take them.  It might make all the difference.
Zoloft and Celexa are also popular long-term antidepressants for folks on
tx. Lots of folks take them. Lots of folks use pot, too.

Good Luck

Thanks for the warning!  :-)

I'm not sure if you used your .38 or not?  It sounded like a combat zone
here last night.  Evidently, m-80's are easy to come by around here.
Seriously, if you have guns and ammo, it might be wise to lock them up
and give your wife all the keys.  I've got a good friend, from my webtv
ng, that had an especially difficult round of tx.  He had been talking
about suicide for awhile and his wife stumbled upon him about to blow
his brains out with his pistol.  The guy was out of his mind with a
headache that wouldn't go away, frequently puking.  Anyway, he got the
intervention he needed, finished 9 1/2 months of what was supposed to be
11 months of tx, and got his SVR.
Trade the handgun for a guitar.  I guess you could commit suicide with a
guitar too, but it won't look as messy.  Hang yourself with the
g-string?
Hope you're not feeling too crappy this morning.  :-)

I was just joking about the gun.  Cops took them all away back in the good
ole days.  I'm not allowed to own one now and never felt the need to have
one enough to have my wife purchase one for me.  Depression is nothing new
for me actually.  I have a pretty good attitude right now and will try to
maintain that.  Things went well last night.  I didn't get the chills or the
fever.  I'm wondering now if I got ripped off with counterfeit medicines.
The dude on the street corner was in a hurry to take my money.

Thanks for the warning!  :-)
