mags - 11 Jun 2006 16:08 GMT As soon as this hell is over :). I went to see the BCLD for my 36 week checkup last week. I was given the rest of my drugs, weighed in, blood pressure tests, blood tests and usual questions. They were concerned that I have lost over 40 pounds but I associate some of that with some personal issues I have been facing lately as well, which is why I havent been online much. I asked about my last shot day (August 23rd) and if I could go back to work on the following Monday. They said I will still be sick from side effects for 4 to 6 weeks? What is your experience out there in hepper land.
Mags 73 days to go
Cactus Jammies - 11 Jun 2006 16:28 GMT mags, you have amazing reslience. good on you. forty lbs is a bunch, wow. but your figure of four to six weeks recuperation from tx is what my bcld told me too. at least, in my case, but anyway, life does go on. good luck through the rest of it. btw, they never suggested that you reduce any of your meds, did they? did you ever use Procrit while on tx?

A long time ago I had to reduce my interferon for 2 weeks because of my blood counts. I am on Eprex and take a needle every other week. I have remained on the full riba dosage the entire time although I plan to not take pills for the last 3 days - and told my nurse that lol.

I no longer trudged everywhere I went, I could actually climb a couple of flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator, and my appetite started coming back in a hurry.
That said, I'm still getting over some of the lingering effects, mostly muscle tone related. Like you I was 40+ pounds lighter post-tx than before - I started with a BMI of 28 and ended at 23 - but that's all getting better, too.
Clearly you're not going to jump right back to your pre-tx stamina, so begin the recuperation process in a non-aggressive fashion. *Do* stuff, just don't set the bar too high to quickly...
Cheers - and welcome back.

mags - 11 Jun 2006 17:59 GMT Thanks Grey. I can't even lift a bar never mind setting one lol. I think 2 weeks sounds reasonable as well. I will return to the gym in 6 weeks instead of right after I finish to help my muscle tone. I asked about blood work after my last shot. They need to see me in 2 weeks, 4 weeks 12 and 24 weeks. They said in the first 2 visits if my enzyme levels begin to rise it means I probably still have the virus. Interesting. She said its the only advantage of being in a study as these tests are not normally performed at these intervals.

If you're going to relapse, it's almost for sure that you'll do it in the first 30 days after you finish your last meds. You'll know almost for certain one way or the other, knowing the results will take you off the hook mentally. But I've got this real good feeling that you'll be getting the 'good word', gal.

Take care.

I went to work a week after I finished tx. Keep in mind I only went 24 weeks, it was rough. Strange aches and pains, and I was exhausted afterwork. I am on my feet 9 to 10 hours a day though. It's been a little over 2 months post tx for me and I can say that I finally feel pretty damn good.
So given your experience with how long and how hard treatment was for you, it may be wise to consider part time at first.
Good luck with the home stretch there girl!

mags - 11 Jun 2006 23:52 GMT Thanks Dortlet. I will be talking to my boss tomorrow and see if I can arrange to work in my hometown for 4 weeks so I can go home if it gets bad. Commutting adds an extra 3 hrs a day - yikes!

Don't even think about going back to work for at least a month after finishing tx. It takes weeks and months for you to get back to where you were. Don't rush it. Hope all is well on the 'home front'. You're a sweetheart! Elmo

Dolphy - 12 Jun 2006 03:24 GMT Hi Mags,
What do you do for work?
I've been on tx for five weeks and I've already missed two days of work.
My wife is currently on maternity leave and I don't have the luxury of not having to work.
Rgds Dolphy
mags - 12 Jun 2006 13:06 GMT I manage a department that deals with lawyers, media - high profile issues. I lasted 5 months into tx and became so ill that I had to stay home.
Mags couldn't do anything physical and for that matter mental

layers of it peel off like the proverbial onion, there is no real way to predict your landing back to 'normalcy' 100% but we all adjust and you will too. Something I should have done (and will remember next time) is to try and get out and socialize and live in the 3D world as much as possible, get a little sun for the vitamins, etc. While on tx and when trying to recover from it as well, or perhaps even moreso, because as in my case, I was in my own reverse isolation during the actual 48 weeks. Eat your fave foods, (forty blink blink lost pounds, wow, woman wow that is MUCHO)
stick it in your belly and stick around 8-)
