Extended Loss of Libido

A sensitive topic, for me as well, but I need to ask.  I completed tx
7 weeks ago, long enough for my bloodwork to return to pre-treatment
levels (RBCs, platelets).  Physically, I haven't felt this good in a
long time.  No more shortness of breath or fatigue.  My problem is a
continued lack of libido.  I just have no interest in sex.  Has anyone
else encountered this?  Not sure what to make of it, whether it's
something physical or psychological, either way it's not good.

Should I mention it to my FP?

Thanks for listening,

David

I would have to ask you if you were on anti-d's during treatment, and if
not, or maybe even if you were, it could be depression-related. Either, a
side-effect of the anti-d's or a symptom of depression.; Surely, I would
recommend discussing the issue with your FD.
If he can't give you any help, I can recommend some quality porn....;-)

I was on anti-d's (Wellbutrin) for about 6 months, but was weaned off
about a month ago.  Maybe my body just needs more time to adust.  Then
again, maybe it's my head that needs adjusting! ;-)

What's weird is that according to my newsreader, your reply showed up
about 12 hours before my post!  You are GOOD!

Thanks for advice,

David

Hey Dave,
why don't you give yourself some more time?

I mean, I don't remember whether you went for the 24 or 48 weeks route
but anyway 7 weeks are not so much time, you just finished.

My experience is that tx didn't changed my libido a lot, at least it
didn't directly.
Of course it was not like before because I was weakened and fatigued by
tx, but that's it.

What I really think is that the whole thing of having Hepatitis C,
undergoing treatment et cetera scrambles up your body and mind a _lot_.

So, talk with your doctor about it if you need it, but also think that
this is _known_ to be a reverisible side effect of treatment, it just
can take different time for everyone for things to go back to normal.

Perhaps you just _think_ you recovered from treatment, but your body and
mind didn't actually.

Cheers,
jeeb.

Thanks, jeeb!  It was 48 weeks - it just felt longer! ;-)

Be well,

David

Hi Dave!
Imo you shouldn't worry about it. Your wife will still love you. I haven't
been interested in sex since I can't remember when. Take up a new hobby
:-)

You mean you've been 'faking it' all these years?  Or are you the "Ok,

I did have this problem but only for about the first 10 weeks of tx.
There may have been non physical causes though as well because I was
mentally very muddled at times.  After about three months of tx,
someone came round to practice on me and it was working again :-) .
Even though I did eventually become physically capable on tx, the
desire was certainly a lot less (a bit of a relief really).  I suppose
that sex wasn't a priority when I had difficulties with thirst,
fatigue, and was too scared to fart in case I sh.t myself.

Tx can give the mind and  body a hammering though so maybe you need to
take this slowly.  Perhaps just stick to hugs and cuddles at first
without puttinbg pressure on yourself?  Make sure your partner knows
that's what you're doing though as I'm sure you wouldn't want to
unfairly raise their expectations.

Failing that, I suppose you could always try a splint.

If you think it's essential to a relationship, just do what the other half
does... fake it

(you will be standing proud soon enough, Trigger!)

It's quite astounding sometime to realize that the side effects of tx can
result in so many different life choices.  heh heh

Sure, Paul - and listen to someone complain about splinters hour after
hour?! ;-)

Thanks for the advice,
