He had his surgery to insert the shunt yesterday morning. All went very
well, he was in surgery for about 2 hours. They made three
incisions....one behind his right ear, another on the back of his
shoulder, and the third lower on his back. He's in intensive care today
but was hungry right away after the procedure and had some soup and a
grilled cheese sandwich. They're giving him pain meds......he's in good
spirits and doing quite well.

I'm glad to hear that Elmo. Does he live far from you? Will you be
able to see him?
If so, kiss him for us. :) e

My daughter and her family live up in Kansas City, about a three to four
hour drive from here. I offered to go up there and help out, but she
had plenty of help from in-laws and the ex and her mother.

What good news that all went well! Eating solid food right away seems like a
good sign. How is your daughter holding up? How are you holding up?What
happens next?

Words can't express my joy for your grandson. Hopefully, he'll be out of
the hospital soon and acting like a normal kid his age. Hope you and
your family came through it as well as he did.

Thanks, everyone. He was taken out of intensive care yesterday.
Although he had no interest in food, it appears he's doing well overall.
Not sure when he'll be allowed to go home.

My best wishes for your grandson's speedy recovery, Elmo. The toll on your
family's nerves must be pretty high. Hopefully you and yours can take some
time now to feel relief and look forward to your grandson's re-emergence
into a semblance of 'normal' living.

Glad to hear things are going OK.
I bet you'll have trouble keeping up with him in a couple of weeks.

Thanks, Michael! I was surprised to learn that Brandon was sent home
yesterday afternoon. Was watching cartoons with his two brothers and
eating his mom's home cooked dinner. We're all very relieved.
