I've begun weening myself off Prednisone and can feel the inflamation
beginning to return. I just won't go back on Prednisone, short or long term,
to manage the inflamation.

I was wondering if any of you know of any decent OTC products that may help
with inflamation for heppers.

Thanks,

Puck,
Can you do any sort of yoga, pilates?  Start out stretching, just a
little everyday.
I always feel a whole lot better if I keep myself limber.  Even if it's
sliding off the recliner onto the floor and streching like a cat or
dog.  I know for sure a little water exercise helps with RA.

Prednisone is some heavy sh.t, not good for long term use.

Hang in there buddy.

Puckertoe, I did the prednisone thing myself after I had systemic
symptoms developed from one hell of a rash.   I think I tapered off the
prednisone about a week or so before I took my last shot.  I didn't
like taking it but it did get me through the last 8 weeks or so of
treatment.  Didn't notice much sides from it fortunately though I seem
to remember my appetite picking up some.  I don't know if there is a
good OTC replacement for heavy duty cortico steroid like pred.  I
believe it is only indicated when inflammation is systemic and not just
like a rash.  Were you getting side effects from it?

My side effects were not good. I still have 4 days left at 10mg a day.

I couldn't sleep, anxious, irritable, emotional basket case, elevated
glucose levels, and blurry vision. I just don't like this stuff.

Since I've tappered off I can finally sleep. But the fatigue and weakness
that comes with the withdrawls is a pain in the butt.

It helped with my rash as well. Plus my inflamed thyroid and joints.

I see an RA doc on Monday and a thyroid doc on Friday. I'm hoping between my
GP, Endo, and RA that they can help me get through my tx.

I'm just worried that this inflamation and high gluclose levels are causing
long term damage.

You didn't mention it, but my biggest problem with pred was the constant
desire to eat. I dreamed of food. I even watched and video taped the
cooking shows on PBS. My family really enjoyed it, I cooked so many
different elaborate dishes they had a surprise for every meal. Of course
I had been on some very strong IV antibiotics that ruined my taste buds
for over 6 months, everything tasted metallic. I was off the pred long
before my taste buds returned to normal and lost my desire to cook like
that again. I still fix a few of the dishes that became family
favorites, but I just wasn't obsessed with food after that. Hope this
cheers you up a little, you'll make it, and everything will return to
normal when you get off the pred.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yes! The food! Last Saturday I ate all day long. In one
sitting I had a bowl of fruit loops, 8 small Gherkin pickles, 8 small dill
pickles, 4 Ritz cheese and crackers, and then a bowl of Sugar Smacks.

HA! What an eating machine.

Now I feel that I don't want anything. No appetite. :)

Yeah, I was worried also when I seen the elevated glucose levels in the
blood and was very anxious to get off of it although I knew you can't
just stop.  I tapered off to I think 5 mg for a week or so before I
stopped.  I think it is usually the people who have been on it quite a
while who get socked with the nastier sides.
