Hello all,
Not sure if you remember me. I have posted a few times. After first
being diagnosed, my GI doc told me that we should wait six months and
retest before proceeding. On the advise of folks here, I got a second
opinion. My new BCLD , like so many here, saw no reason to wait. To
make a long story short, I had my biopsy today (about 4 months sooner
then if I had stayed with my original doctor) . I was very nervous
about it but it went very well. After being numbed, there was
absolutely no pain or even discomfort. I'm not sure what I was
expecting but the whole procedure (after numbing and ultra sound) took
about 3 seconds. It was literally over so quickly that I wasn't even
aware that it had been done. The hardest part was lying still on my
side for 2 hours. It's been about 12 hours since the procedure and
everything is great.
Now the hard part, waiting for the results.
So to all those out there dreading the biopsy, it's a piece of cake.....
Take care all, I'll check back in after I find out the damage.

Welcome back BAB!
Great to hear your biopsy went well. Mine was the same. Laying in bed with
the blood pressure cuff on and that pulse clip on my finger got old didn't
it?
Keep us posted on your results and progress. Try not to sweat the waiting.

Bob, glad to hear everything went so smoothly for you. I have had
several biopsies and for the most part have had the same experience as
you. I hope the results come back quickly and they are better than
expected. Let us know about your results and what your doc suggests with
the results.

Hi Bob, Hope it goes OK for you. Keep us posted. All I have had is the bio.
Now I'm just left in limbo waiting. (Heh, biopsy may have resulted in best
real sleep I've had in a long time.) Yes you are right, piece of cake. I
hope you'll keep us filled in on your progress.

I had to stay on my side for 2 hours but had to stay in the bed for
four. My doctor said even this is changing. He told me about a clininc
in florida that only requires people to hang around for an hour.

No side rails? If they'd have given you a tab of Viagra, it would have
kept you from rolling out bed.

For what it's worth, I started Tx without ever getting a biopsy. Once I
was confirmed positive for hep-c, I chose treatment, and treatment
promptly commenced.
At the hepatitis and liver clinic where I am receiving care, liver
biopsy is normally ruled out as an imprudent procedure if the client
with hepatitis-c has already decided to go forward with treatment. If
the client needs to determine if postponement of treatment is a
reasonable option, then a liver biopsy will be performed and conditions
evaluated to guesstimate how much time the client has before the
fibrosis becomes dangerously advanced. In my own case, however, I did
not need a biopsy to know what I wanted to do.
Once I received a confirmation of infection and the determination of
HCV genotype, I decided to begin slaying the dragon as soon as possible
and the clinic has already clarified that it could have sword in my
hands in two weeks after I declared a commitment to go to battle.
Despite an acute curiosity suffered over my liver condition, the larger
issue for me came down to a question of whether I should start
treatment as soon as possible or wait. Did I want to wield the sword,
or just let the dragon do it's thing while we all just think about it?
Today the biopsy question is past. Curiosity is moot. Today the sword
is drawn.
