I have been off treatment since Nov. 2004 and still clear of the virus
per last check 3 months ago.  Even before the treatments ended my
eyesight has started to go bad.  Before treatment I had no problems
seeing anything.

Bad eyesight is one of the reported side effects.  I guess I got that
one.  I am looking for a magnifier now so I can still use my computer.
I can still see it but it is starting to strain.

Anyone else getting this?

Congrats on your SVR!

Have you actually been diagnosed with retinopathy - or some other ocular
condition - caused by IFN therapy? Did you have a thorough pre-therapy eye
checkup to establish a baseline?

Cheers

No.  My insurance is a group fund put in by our employers (IBEW)  Our
fund is low at the moment.  Dental and eye benefits are temporary
suspended.  I plan to get glasses as soon they reinstate my befits

BTW I am 44 and many people say that it is about time for my eyes to go
bad, but I feel (without any proof) that it was the treatment.

Ok, it's certainly in the range of possibilities, but without an actual exam,
you're winging it, and you're at that age that eyesight can change rather
dramatically.

I'm 50-something, and while I was always moderately nearsighted, my visual
acuity *really* went downhill in my 40s. I went through 3 prescription changes
in the last 13 years - before therapy. I need corrective lenses to read, and
to drive - the ends of my range of sight are quickly converging. But nothing
to do with IFN...

Presbyopia is a very common occurence at your age. Good possiblity it
has nothing to do with treatment.
Lens tends to harden with age and have trouble focusing. Maybe you just
need reading glasses.

Even before tx my eyes have been going down hill (farsighted). I'm f.cked if
I don't have some glasses around because I can't read a damn thing anymore.
Now I do have my expensive bi-focals, but I just buy cheap ones of different
strengths depending on what I'm doing. Kinda just keep some laying around
handy. It was about my early 40's when my eyes started to go south, I'm 50
now.

It is the worst thing about aging.  I have about 15 pairs laying around
the house for hubby and me lol.

Terry- please even if you have to please seek an opthalmologist. The
lowest cost one I've found is Walmart- or if you have a triple A card
lenscrafters offers a deal that costs about the same as Walmart. There
are some serious problems you can encounter from treatment with the
eyes.

You should get checked when you get a chance. But I can tell you that I had
perfect eyesight until I hit my 40's. It started with reading glasses, and
now, like Russ, I can't read a damn thing without my glasses. I'm on my
second prescription, and now I'm going to +1.50 magnification.

However, when I take my eye test it always comes back 20/20. I suspect that
you need nothing more than some reading glasses to use the computer. Just
like me. :)

You could try and take some of those 19.95 reading glasses off the shelf at
your local perscription store and see if that helps.

Puckertoe, same here. My right eye is 20/15! 20/20 in the left. I use +1.75
for just sitting at the computer, my "readers" are stronger. I have a pair
of +3.00 in my computer tool box for when I have to "get in there close".

HA! I know excatly what you mean. I opened a computer to do some work and
had to put on two pair of glasses to read some internal hardware writing.

We're just getting old. :)

I have found something that makes using the computer easier.
It is called Windows Dragnifier.  It is freeware.

I can still read the screen most of the time, but I can't read magazine
text much now.
