Emory just called. I'll have the MRI the 14th and have to go back the 21st
to have all my labs done again and see Dr. Kapoor to discuss the results of
the MRI.
The dumb questions: Why did they schedule me to come back? Why not
schedule me to come back only if the results aren't good? They wouldn't
say.

unsure what has happened there in the past for you... I think
some docs like to have you come in either way, avoiding that fear
of bad news somehow... I've had a couple of experiences like
that where they wanted me or one of mine to come back for
results, etc, and then they've been good when we've gone back.
chin up :) 'one day at a time'... it's a good mantra :)

They want to scare the hell out of you and besides they probably get
more money for a visit.

It;s the visit Thip. They get money for you going there as oppsed to
discussing your results over the phone.
It happens to me as well. I had some tests done for a sudden onset of double
vision. When the results came in I asked what they were. They stated that I
need to make an appointment and come in right away.
Man! I thought for sure something was wrong. Once I got there the doctor
simply stated that all my results were normal. Have a nice day.
Bastards. WTF!? Why couldn't you just tell me that instead of me wasting all
this time and hard earned sick leave?
Because the office visit pays more. Much more.
No need to worry Thip, they're just milking the system.

Maybe their scheduling is tight and to get you an appointment now would
ensure that there was time available if you needed it.
I hope everything goes well,

One of the reasons is that your MELD score is only a 7 and that's low!!! It
can unexpectedly jump higher. That's probably what their looking at.

What's the MELD got to do with the AFP?

This is more of a response to those who say your doctor just want you to
come in because it's more money in his pocket and he's "milking the system."
If "good" test results were given over the phone, with the knowledge, most
folks would freak if an appointment was scheduled to get test results.
Others would demand that less-than-good test results be given over the
phone, and you can imagine how wrong this could be in, say a diagnosis of a
fatal disease. Yes, it's an inconvenience for those who are told, "your
results are fine," but it's a more sensitive way to handle patients getting
bad news.
Plus, is it fair to expect doctors to do unpaid work when talking on the
phone with patients? Most professionals bill for consultations, and many
bill for telephone conversations. An appointment for a physical visit is the
only way a doctor can bill for their services.
I'm not saying that it's fair, or economically responsible, but that's the
way our system is set up and that's not the fault of the individual doctor
who has to work within its structure. Believe me, when I travelled to
Vancouver from Pender Harbour for medical appointments that seemed
unnecessary, I was not a happy camper. My last of these highly inconvenient
and patently stupid voyages was to pick up my prescription for Pegetron.
Yes, to simply pick up a prescription that could have been phoned or faxed
to the pharmacy right here in Pender Harbour. Arrrrgh!
